Hello to All,

My friend and I are interested in a hunt for PG in Namibia and are considering November of 2008. We intend to book for 10-12 days each with our own guide. This would be our first trip to Africa.

We are primarily interested Kudu and Gemsbok. In addition, I am interested in Blue Wildebeest and Hartman's Zebra while my friend is interestd in Eland and Impala.

At this point, we are considering booking with the following; Khan River, Ndandi, Ozondjahe and Jan Oelofse. We were considering Klawerberg but they're booked until 2009. Any suggestions, advice, recommendations and feedback would be highly appreciated.

Also check into Vaughan Fulton's Classic Safaris (I had a wonderful hunt with Vaughan in 2004) and the highly recommended (on this site) Gras Ranch. Searches here should provide contact information.

Bobby B,

Unfortunately, Mike Kibble of www.progress-safaris.com is perfect for this type of hunt, but I would imagine he will be booked out.......though you might get lucky in November.

A mate and I hunted with him last year and took 55" and 58" Kudu, 40" and 42" Gemsbok bulls as well as 16" and a 17.5" Springbuck Smiler

I am hunting with him next year, once more.......

I can book you with Uitspan safaris in the Kalahari. They have some excellent Kudu and Gemsbok along with everything else Namibia has to offer. I also book for Klawberg but they are booked full for 2008 as of now.

Look at http://www.arugamelodge.com/

Was there earlier this year, saw some spectacular Gemsbok and Kudu, also Springbok, Wildebeest, Eland, Mountain Zebra, huge flocks of Oatrich.

Excellent accommodations too.

Bobby,
I just returned last night from hunting with Keith Wright of Didimala safaris.
I haven't loaded the pics off the camera but will later today. Great trip. Shot a 42 1/2 inch bull Gemsbok. Used 2 smaller 36" Gemsbok as lion bait. Kicking springbok out the way as they were that numerous. Spotted a huge Kudu bull 58"-60" but lost visibility of him shortly there after. I shot a variety of other plains game and had a great overall trip. Can send Keith's contact information if interested. Will post a few pics after I download pics.

Several of us have had fantastic experiences with Dirk Rohrmann. He is now part of Omalanga Safaris (http://www.namibianhunter.de/English/Englishmenu.htm) Do a search in Hunting Reports for "Okanduka Seibe".

If you haven't already booked your 2008 hunt you would do well to do it soon as availability is fast diminishing. If you can't find a hunt that will fit your bill you might want to check with the PHs that are listed with NAPHA (Namibia Professional Hunting Association) http://www.natron.net/napha/members/membersa-c.html and contact them. Whoever you book with I'm sure you will a superb time in Namibia.

Again, try to book a year or two in advance. Namibia is getting popular these days.

you might consider www.ovitahunting.com, ovita hunting farm. i just came back from there asnd they offer all you listed, and the rates are reasonable. i took a giraffe and waterbuck from there. the ten days before that i took leopard, 2 hartmann zebras, baboon at westfalenhof hunting farm, part of the "die Keiler" group of farms, and saw many good kudu and gemsbok there. both of these are near okahandja, just 2 hours from the airport. good luck

Family Oriented Recommendation?

I was just thinking about Namibia today and was going to make a post asking recommendations and saw this thread!!!!

I have been to RSA twice, but want to take my wife and 4 kids either in 08 or 09 and am looking for an operation that caters to families and ideally has children onsite. At minimum, I will take my wife (the plane trip is bad enough on your own, so 4 kids may do us in!)

I went to Namibiahunter's site and it looks like his might fit the bill. Any other recommendations?

My kids are 5,7,9, and 12; with the oldest being a boy. My son and wife love to hunt. My 5 and 7 year old girls are earnestly awaiting their first successful hunt (I start the kids on hogs and does). My son has taken white tail (does, bucks), hogs, and Aoudad - we are still trying to get him his first Axis buck. So I would want to mix trophy hunting and cull hunting together to cover everyone's likes. Probably 7 days.

Hi Guys

I was going to go to Namibia next year but due to health reasons had to cancell my trip.
I was booked with Johann Veldsman at Shona Adventures.
You can contact Johann directly, he was very helpfull in organising my trip, he will aslo be honest about the conditions of your hunt and will not try to sell you something you will not get.

He has some good references and has taken some nice trophies this past season.
The new lodge is apparently a very nice place to take your family to.

I can highly recommend CEC Safaris. I have known Elaine and Cornie since 1995, I took my wife on her first safari last year with them and she took 4 tremendous animals.

I hunted problem lions during this time but did not connect. I am returning for 14 days next July and am looking for a partner to go along.

Austin Hunter:

If you do decide to hunt at Etemba Hunt and Safaris I think that you and your family will have a great hunt/vacation. The Armin and Karen have two children, a son, Sven (13 yrs old) and Laura (9 yrs old) who would be great playmates for your children. My 13 year old son went with me last March and got along just great with Sven. Here is a pic of my son, Nathan (on the left) and Sven, the PH's son with a caracal that I shot.

Your family will fit in just right in the guest house (3 bedrooms, 2 baths) and Karen's cooking is out of this world (delicious).

Email them at armin.fietz@africaonline.com.na if you'd like to learn more or get a quote for a family vacation/hunt.

I saw a post in favor of Shona Adventoure and I whole heartedly reccomend it. Johann and Vera Veldsman are first class host and you can not go wrong. If both of you want a 1 on 1 hunt Johann can probably get his friend and fellow PH Jan du Plessis of Sebra hunting to be the other PH. I hunted with both of them this past summer and they both are great friends. You can reach Johann at www.shona-adventures.com or if you want to contact me directly you cam reach me at setterrun@mebtel.net. Namibia is a great country to hunt. The gun laws are hunter frieendly and as long as you have the forms filled out you will have no problems. The climate is also friendly.

My Brother and I returned from Namibia on 09/01/07. We hunted with CEC Safaris and would recommend them highly. Both Cornie and Elaine are PHs and do an excellent job at judging animal quality. Now trying to figure out a way to go back and hunt with them again..

If you don’t have your heart set on Namibia let me give you some food for thought. You can hunt Botswana for the rest of the species listed except Hartman’s Zebra for pretty much the same cost Namibia but, in a my opinion, in a “wilder†setting with less pressured game and excellent trophy quality (big kudu and plenty of eland). Botswana is just as politically stable and corruption free as Namibia. I just wanted to let you know about another option. I used to live in Ghanzi and know most of the game farmers in the area. You find out more at www.african-excursions.com .

Thanks for all the recommendations! I think we are going to plan for a 2009 or 2010 visit. I've been twice without my family, Africa is just to great of an experience to have by yourself. Maybe I will make the trip longer and cover a couple of countries - RSA, Namibia, and Bostwana. With 4 kids, I'm not looking forward to the flights!
