Well Boys....I'm not taking my wife to Africa this year. Nope..taking her to Vienna, Austria to the Hofberg Palace, for the Imperial Ball on New Years Night....where we will Vienesse Waltz until dawn to the Vienna Philharmonic. Tux's...long gowns...and the whole nine yards.
Damn expensive too.....about the cost of a cheap plains game hunt for 6 animals of someone else's choice.
No sir....not taking my wife to Africa.
BUT I AM TAKING MY GRANDAUGHTER FOR 3 WEEKS IN JULY !!! Funny thing too.....haven't got a negative word from anyone at the house.

My wife is Austrian and I have been to that country many times. I have never done what you are planning, but if time permits, get out of the city and explore the country. It's an awesome place.

Since it's winter, be sure to go to Kitzbuhel and ski the Hahnnenkamm. And take a good orthopedic surgeon with you. I escorted a ski club trip there in 1985 or so and we had two blown knees and a wrecked ankle out of 20 folks... but, medivacs aside?... it was fun as could be skiing right out of your hotel, drinking schnapps and riding in slegdes all blundled up with a pretty lady. I've been back several times since and always found very friendly folks and a beautiful land, both in the cities and countryside.

Not my pictures, but you'll get the idea.. A Wonderful Mountain!

As to the safari, how old is your grandchild and where are you going. What a great gift to someone you love!

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

The wife shoveled the driveway yesterday, and complained how hard it was. I went out today and bought her one of those ergonomic shovels which is much easier on your back! Smiler I have to take care of myself for the next 7 months.

The fact that I got a big screen HDTV and Blu-Ray player for her (since she let me add bushbuck and hyena to my wish list for my Zimbabwe trip) had nothing to do with my generosity.

dogcat: I can see Blank buying his wife a HDTV and Blu Ray, as being the SAFER choice. Now with that chainsaw, well, . . look out. Just don't mention the name of John Bobbit around her when she's using it. dancing

JudgeG: My Grandaughter is 5. We will celebrate her 6th birthday while in Africa. Going to SA and playing it safe on her first safari. I'll go with Johan Spies...then stay and film for the rest of July & August. Going to Moz. in August. Skipping Zim this year, unless I just go crash at Russell's (Ultimate) and fish the Zambezi a few days.
Grandaughter will be shooting her .243 She absolutely can shoot your eye out @ 200 yards. We practice on full size animal archery targets so she is learning the angles for off shoulder shots. The hardest thing will be getting her on the sticks. She can shoot...but barely...if at all....hold up the rifle. Her mother, my daughter, will be doing plenty of shooting also.
Grandaughter was with us this summer when we took a better than average Gemsbok off the White Sands Missle Range in NM. She made the stalk, crawl, shot and whole nine yards. All she wants to do is hunt. Grandpa will fuel that fire as much as possible.
Thanks for asking.

Man....you had to ask. I AM A COMPLETE MENTAL RETARD (can you say that?), when it comes to posting pictures. I'll try to get shakari to post one or two for me. Steve....help.
Oh yes....while in Vienna. We've got tickets to take in the State Opera, State Ballet (Nutcracker), Scheonbrunn Palace & Mozart concerts. Lipazoner Stallions, Boy's Choir, and the Ball. Will hit Salzburg for a couple of days also. Mozarteum & Sound of Music Stuff.
You know how many good trophy fees are going toward culture ?? But you should see the stuff that my wife happily lets me put ALL OVER THE HOUSE. Gotta love it!!

lol! We had a kidnapping/home invasion, happened while an retired Army Colonel was shoveling his sidewalk ...

So my wife is shoveling the sidewalk (I just wait for it to melt) and I come out with my 45 Super on my hip (concealed carry permit). So she says are you here to help? I said, "No Maam, I'm here to provide security"

Smiler

Chuck

Perry: I wondered if anyone would notice the Lone Ranger mask?? When that picture was taken, she was not even 4 1/2 yet. She just did not have the muscle control to close one eye to obtain the sight picture yet. So....I told her to just keep both eyes open and covered the left eye with the LR mask. I guess that makes me Tonto!! Presently, she can shoot with both eyes open (or close the left if that is her choice), she no longer needs the mask. It worked perfect. The rifle has changed to. The one in the pic is an H&R youth model in .243
Would not shoot for anything. Now she has the Remington model 7, with butt recoil removed. About 11 1/2 pull. Works great and she shoots like a pro. Have to load the .243 hot to make it shoot however.
