PHASA have updated us with the following with regard to the transportation of firearms on SA domestic airlines.

SAA – will transport firearms in South Africa from and to all airports

SA Airlink - Hunting rifles, shotguns and hunting handguns may be transported as checked baggage but only to and from the following destinations:
• Antananarivo, Madagascar
• Beira, Mozambique
• Bloemfontein
• Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
• Cape Town
• Durban
• East London
• Gaborone, Botswana
• Harare, Zimbabwe
• Kimberley (Approximately ZAR200 for loading and ZAR200 off loading per hunting rifle and shotgun) no fee to be paid for service at CPT, only in KIM
• Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Nelspruit
• Lusaka, Zambia
• Manzini, Swaziland
• Maputo, Mozambique
• Maseru, Lesotho
• Maun, Botswana
• Mthatha, Eastern Cape
• Nampula, Mozambique
• Ndola, Zambia
• OR Tambo International, Johannesburg
• Pemba, Mozambique
• Phalaborwa
• Pietermaritzburg
• Polokwane
• Port Elizabeth
• Richards Bay
• Tete, Mozambique
• Upington

SA Express - Firearms may be accepted on all SA Express destinations listed below.
• Johannesburg
• Port Elizabeth
• Hoedspruit
• Cape Town
• Kimberley
• Maputo, Mozambique
• Gaborone, Botswana
• Walvis Bay, Namibia
• Durban
• Windhoek, Namibia
• East London
• Lubumbashi, DRC
• Bloemfontein

BA, Kulula and Mango - No firearms allowed.

Great info, thanks very much!!
I had a couple of mates of mine booked on BA from VIc falls to JBErg.
They found out the hard way about the no gun policy!
They managed to buy another couple of seats on the SAA flight and then made the connection to OZ from JBErg, with guns arriving safely as well!

What about Kasane, Botswana?? SA still doesn't list this destination on either their permitted or prohibited lists. I flew there with firearms for an Elephant hunt with Karl Stumpfe. When making airline reservations I found that this destination wasn't listed on either list then and apparently things still haven't changed.

I called SAA and it took them a day or two to get back to me with the info. that it was OK to fly with firearms to Kasane. Looks like they still haven't updated their list to include this destination.

strange too that some of Airlinks flights go to Kasane via Maun, which is approved. and Maun is where you get off the plane on that flight and clear Botswana customs!
