Thanks guys -I think I understood the answers ! The case used in a double is flanged and thats not needed in a bolt action and if power levels are the same as a .416 Rigby then it would be superfluos anyway as I have a .416 Rigby. I actually meant opening the case to take the bigger bullet, my mistake. Cheers!

CEWE, Its a rimmed cartridge, so thats not good for a DG bolt action as rimmed rounds never feed in most bolt guns properly. It effect it is a balistic duplicate of the 416 Remington or 416 Rigby..If you open it up to a larger caliber then it becomes a 450, 465, 500, or anyone of a bunch of existing Nitro Express calibers... Bottom line it is a double rifle caliber that is pretty much the modern replacement of the 450-400 in that it considerably faster, but doubtfull IMO that its any great improvment over that fine old caliber. It is a grand idea if it becomes accepted, but I don't see a lot of doors being torn down to get one..

Please correct me if I am wrong but didn't a member here develop a 50 cal wildcat based on the 416 Rigby about a year ago? Also didn't Heym make a bolt action rifle in 577 and 60 NE? Presumably they could make it in 500-416 if they wanted? Best wishes and good hunting!
