My hunting partner and I are planning a hunt in Namibia during the last 2 weeks of March 2009. Is this a good or bad time to hunt the game listed? Anyone know what areas of Namibia are best for each species? Bobby B.

Bobby, I went that timeframe the my first trip in 2004. Saw lots of gemsbok, springbok, hartebeast, warties, zebra, etc. It will be hot during midday, especially for someone coming from the ice box at that time of year . The mornings and evenings should be ok. Others will know more about game movements, etc. Good luck!! K

Hi Bobby, Just so you know, Namibia isn't really affected by migration. The best times to hunt (and most popular) are May-August; March will be a little hot. We represent several outfitters that offer all of those species. We have an outfitter in particular who hunts down in the Kalahari for a couple of days and then take you up the Khomas Hochland area to hunt for a few days. You get to see two completely different Namibian terrains. If you want more details, please feel free to PM me or email me: Shannon@tjsafari.com Thanks!

It can still be wet and hot in March,,,,after May it becomes much dryer and cooler. Plains game are mostly hunted on large ranches and as stated migration isn't a factor. I am returning August 08 to Namibia, cool to cold mornings and warm mid day,, and no rain,,,,,and very few snakes,, I hate snakes! Go when you can go..and stay as long as you can stay,, it is a tough trip..make it worth it!!!..drwes you can make more money, you can not make more time

March is the time when I hunt with my sons in Namibia. They're out of school for Spring Break at that time. For all the game you've listed except perhaps the impala, the Kalahari will give you great trophy opportunities. Many hunting farms, however, have planted trophy-quality impalas. The Khomas Highland provides excellent Mountain Zebra opportunities. Check with several outfitters and PHs to see which one will best suit you. The heat was never a problem with me. Unless you are in the middle of a stalk or following a hot spoor then you will probably be in the shade at midday, glassing the pans, and enjoying a cold drink. The mornings and late afternoons can be cool so always bring a jacket along. The rain, when it comes in March, is warm and a welcome respite from the heat of the land. Snakes are around but are rarely encountered. Just don't go poking into aardvark and warthog holes. Namibiahunter http://namibiahunter.angelfire.com .
