I'm part of a 50 man group and we schedule our upcoming vacation calendar around this time of the year. I get 9-10 weeks off. June and July are "desirable" and thus difficult to get those you want, with a 3 week block near impossible. I'd rather give those months to my partners with kids anyway. The schedule becomes finalized in December, just in time for the shows.

Regrettably, this doesn't allow for me to jump on some damn good cancellation hunts and of course I can't book one until I know I get those weeks off. So I have to gamble with blocking off weeks and then go to DSC/web book a hunt and hope I can coordinate.

Last year, after DSC I changed gears (from sheep to leopard) and went on my first safari. Fortunately the time I had previously scheduled in August worked out and I got my leopard and PG.

Well, now it is time for me to put in for 2018.

So, my question is if you had to block off 2 weeks at a time and perhaps a 3 week block and throw the dice, when would you do it? I'm thinking of either a non exportable lion or a buffalo hunt for 2018. I am open to non exportable/tuskless elephant although I'd rather do that after I get fitted & order a double at DSC even though I have a .416 Rigby.

So................which weeks would y'all block off now?

This is a very open ended question and am open to all ideas as I don't have anything lined up for 2018. I just want to be able to go to DSC with "I want to hunt _______ I can go ______. Watcha got?"........

Thanks....

August is my favorite. The weather is nice, things have dried up to concentrate the game at water pans, the leaves have fallen. Great time.

I was in the same situation until 5-6 years ago. Go for time in late August-October. You wont be competing with the guys with school kids, weather is nice( maybe hot) and you can jump on the left over quota/ cancellations/ late season discounted specials.it always worked well for me.
