DSC 2023 is in the rear view, in my humble opinion, a pretty good show, attendance maybe a bit light (my observations only, I’m sure record attendance). I was able to firm up dates for upcoming Covid delayed hunts, 3 of them. Including a stroke of luck on my part in having a delayed elephant hunt moved to the Nyae Nyae concession in Namibia. Also, a new hunt with CMS, a hunt donated to Lubbock Sportsmans Club, which will take place in Sengwa. Finally, on the acquisition side, I was able to buy the custom gunmaker guild donation at auction of the “President’s Rifle”, an absolutely stunning single shot masterpiece in .303 British. I’ll post a few pics in another thread, beautiful rifle. Unfortunately, my wife found the Baranoff jewelry booth,
I was able to visit wit a few AR member(full disclosure, I was only there about 5 hours), Jorge, Larry Shores, Buzz Charlton, Mike Jines and Dr Scott, may have missed mentioning a couple, my apologies. What did you pick up, which AR members did you see and what was your overall impression?

As always, we really enjoyed the show. We were there Thursday and the crowds felt similar to prior years (we always attend opening day).

I was able to pick up some really nice gemsbok horn sconces with porcupine quill shades for the trophy room in our ongoing new house build. At Safari Press, I picked up a signed copy of "A Dangerous Game" which I've enjoyed thus far. I'm booked for leopard/croc on Cahora Bassa for next year so spent a lot of time discussing specifics, gear lists, etc.

DSC puts on a great show and I look forward to it every year.

Karl,

My attendance was spotty due to my real job and my father being in the hospital again. I missed meeting TWL and Larry Shores visiting our booth.

Are you still on the gimpy leg? Was that the Bailey Bradshaw rifle? If so, that thing is beautifully awesome.

Will you be at PCQ?

Spent three days talking with many outfitters and in the end booked two hunts. A Masailand trip this spring and a trip to RSA later in the fall. Almost booked a third hunt, but realized the schedule was getting a bit full, especially if I draw a sheep tag this year.

Saw many PH / outfitters that post on this site, including Buzz/Miles/Len, Charl, Duckworths, PVT, etc. Met a few others for the first time, like Michel Matheakis, Pete Fick, etc. Several others that slip my mind at present.

I thought the show was well attended overall, perhaps a bit light on Friday, but definitely longer lines on Saturday. Had a great time and wish I could have booked several more trips. Already thinking about next year...

I got fatter. You americans eat a lot.
Saw a few faces from AR. But my poor english usually stops me from shaking hands. Of course raided the cooler at CMS booth! Handed over a few Norwegian bottles of firewater and had a chat with Buzz. Heading south next year for ele bull and what not. Didnt feel like wasting other outfitters time kicking their tires. Flying over the pond for 26 hours and 5 different airplanes is a bit of a hassle.

I bought a 1914 Holland and Holland sidelock 500/465 from Champlin.
Checked on a few African safaris that are booked this year. I Bought some lovely items from Buzz's wife Stefanie, at her booth for my wife. I swindled some cold beer from my old friends Buzz and Myles. I also bought a leather slip for my double from Dick Murray. I saw way too many friends to list.

I could only go one day due to family hospitalization as well.

Got to have a good conversation with AR Members Larry Shores, Jon Peterson, and Mike Lindsay.

Spent some time catching up with my good friends John Tolmay and his lovely wife Di.

Made a point to go by and say hi to friends Piet Fourie and lovely wife Gill and Debbie Gracy.

Planned to meet with Roger Parry of Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust but got there too late and they had to head to airport.

Took my boy and one of his buddies to roam with — they had a great time.

By the time I did the above and got my boots shined…was time to head home and deal with family business.

Hunts already booked into BVC for this summer with PH Nigel Theisen who missed DSC for a knee replacement which he had and is recuperating well — I will give it a good test this summer on a stroll. Wink

Marcus, my attendance was spotty as well, yes, still gimpy and hopefully only 4-6 more weeks in a boot. Went by Miles a few times but missed you. We were unable to get a table at PCQ so likely won’t be there, I bought the custom gunmakers guild rifle, a collaboration of 5 or 6 gunmakers, single shot .303 British. Come down and shoot it sometime.

Saw my fiend Mike Junes at CMS booth, where I discussed an elephant bull hunt with Len. Visited with my good friend Harpreet Brar and his beautiful wife Jo. I have hunted with Harpreet many times. Saw my good friend and PH Quintin Whitehead who has guided me on several awesome hunts. Can’t forget Schalk Pienar who accompanied me on and great elephant hunt in the Caprivi. Too any others to list.

Did book a peacock bass trip for myself and my wife who so enjoyed our first trip a couple f years ago.

Thank

I commented this on an earlier post and it fits here. I wish I had met more people from here but will hopefully have that opportunity in 2024.

My wife and I had a great Fri-Sun. No problems checking in Friday at 10am. We each had QR codes that had been sent to our phones a couple of weeks ago. Presented those and had badges/passes in very short order. Total time from shuttle to convention floor: less than 10 mins.
I went with specific intent to book one hunt and ended up elsewhere. Also got my wife's floating bone necklace being built finally to our specs. (when Patrick Mavros calls at 7am with his recommendations, it wakes me right up) Found a sailfish operation in Guatemala that is competing for my interest and money with Ecuador and the Galapagos. Visited with Parkwest Arms (formerly Dakota Arms) and think we can come to terms on a big-bore bolt action in the Spring. Discussed and chose poses with my taxidermist for animals from Zim. Took a bad beat on a silent auction. Roll Eyes but we had a blast start to finish.
I talked to one free-lance PH who was booking into 2026.He stated his "show was made already" by Friday noon.
We had a great time. We were able to meet a couple of folks from here and a few
more who use to contribute here. We even met Don Jr on the elevator and were invited to his event. Yes, a few more places to sit would be nice but it has prompted me to look more into that laser surgery on my back. The shuttle worked well for us staying at AC Marriott even though we had to walk 2 blocks to catch.
My wife is already making plans to go back and I support that 100%.

I won an auction Saturday Night for a fishing trip with the Scott Lake Lodge. My son and I did a trip there about 4 years ago. The pike fishing was off the charts.

I also started planning a late late season buffalo hunt.

Go Duke!!

I managed to make a last minute trip for 1.5 days and had a great time. Saw a few old friends, but there were so many folks around several of the booths at which I planned to stop that I was unable to catch up with others.

Wanted to book in Zim for 2024, but looking like it's going to be 2025 due to quota limitations, etc. I may tag along with my best friend on his Africa hunt this summer, but if not, perhaps off to Alaska.

The firearm selection was excellent, and I really enjoyed spending way too much time in that area. A friend and I made an offer on set of Rigby big game bolts action rifles, but we weren't able to close the deal. The disappointment in not getting those (which I didn't even need) was significantly offset by yesterday's arrival of my new to me double rifle.

Great show. Been many times. This was the busiest.
I saw several AR folks and finally met one face to face. All good and fun.

Re-met Christophy Mario... I need to hunt with this guy. He is amazing and full of energy.

Booked an elk hunt with Travis Carter for Cotton Mesa. Been before. Super place and fun. Low stress.

Met up with Thierry Labat - he is booked up for awhile into the future.

Confirmed a hunt with Jason Roussos for 2024.

Met Fernando Saiz and want to hunt with his family in Spain sooner than later....

Great show.

You definitely need to go with Christophe! He is an absolute blast to hunt with. I’m trying to get back for forest buffalo ASAP…

I bought a set of Pulsar Merger, thermal range finding binoculars. These things are a game changer for night stalking with thermals.

They're much more natural then a thermal monocular.

They weren't cheap, but buy once cry once.

I already had two hunts booked for 2023 an Argentina red stag and dove hunt in April and a CMS trophy bull hunt in Kazuma for October so did not book anything new.

I did stop by at Rigby booth to check with Jerome Lanoue about his boxlock double project. He informed me that they were going to do a numbered production of 20 this year with the guns being available in 2025.

I ordered one with .500 NE and .450/400 barrels with the .450/400 having claw mounts for a scope. He later informed me that they had sold out of all at DSC.

I also talked to Ryglen gun dogs as I had placed a deposit with one of their 2024 litters.

Also, saw and chatted with a number of friends. Discussed some of the details of my upcoming CMS hunt with Buzz.

Wow, it is great to see so many buying "exotic" hunts & high end firearms!

I hope to go to DSC next year, but for now I will live vicariously through

all of your adventures! Keep it up.
