I've somewhat coveted a big bore lately. I've been to Africa once, but probably never again. I married a young Filipina. I would like either a 375H&H Ruger #1 or a Mauser 9.3. My problem has always ben that most of the time it will be used on 150lb deer/hogs. I'll download to suit the game. I know that the 225gn 375win flatnose would work. It would seem that the bullets for light game in the 9.3 are no longer avaliable. What 9.3 bullets would you recommend for 150lb game? capt david

CaptDavid,

I would suggest the 270grn Speer as a cheap and cheerful bullet which would work on these..Otherwise, have you considered casting your own? Thats something I want to start in the spring...

Regards,

Pete

My advice : The exact same load you use for the big stuff.

Any high quality bullet will open up quite good on anything from 30# and up

I use the same load for anything from roe deer and up in my 9,3x62. My load is a healthy dose of Norma 203B behind a 250grs Northfork. Works wonders on everything up to big moose.

If I would take it to Africa(which I wont) I would use one of the really good 286grs bullets. I would switch to a 286 Northfork in 2500f/s. Both the Northforks shot under 1/2" in my guns so I do not bother with others. You can also get a NP i 286 that is a lot of bullet. Shoots a tad flatter than the Northfork of same weight. I find the 300 and 320 bullets to heavy for the 62 but they relly shines in the faster rounds like the 9,3x64 Brenneke and 9,3x66 Sako

If you still want another bullet for smaller species try the 250 Nosler BT. It shoots really good in my guns and is actually pretty tough for a BT. You can safely drive it to a bit past 2600f/s in most guns with powders in the Re 15 class.

The high BC in this bullet also makes the 9,3x62 a fair 300y gun if that matters to you.

Norma also had two 231grs bullet for the 9,3. The Vulkan and the bonded Oryx. They do not make the bonded in that weight anymore, but if you can find some out there they are prettty good for smaller big game.
