Finally after a 2 year wait we are off to Mauritius in the Indian ocean in the AM. A Javan Rusa stag is on the menu plus a marlin and I hope many other species. Travel will be a challenge requiring two overnight layovers to get there, one overnight on the way home and a total of five PCR tests. Ugh!!!!

I'll do a full report on my return with lots of pix.

Mark

Okay, I'll confess.

I had to look it up.

An island in the Indian Ocean.

East of Madagascar.

Wild!

Good luck, Mark.

Please do post a report, with photos!

Something wrong with our friend Mark!

That island is normally a host to beaches with bikini clad girls.

The most dangerous game of all, a deer face and a bear behind. One look and we are done for!

Unless of course the skimpy bikini-clad Creole girls are the quarry. Big Grin

Best way to get there is by cruise ship!! We visited in early 2019 enroute to Capetown... from New Zealand... it only took us about 60 days to get there.... and yes the swimming and bikini clad locals are stunning!!
No time for game.... saved that for South Africa. We cudda taken Javan Rusa in Papua New Guinea!!...with a spear!!

Good Luck, Mark!!

Mauritius bans flights from South Africa for a month

Mauritius will suspend all flights from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho from Monday until 31 December.

Arvind Bundhun, director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, announced the decision "with regret", saying it was part of a "strict, public health-first approach".

"The government of Mauritius looks forward to welcoming visitors from these countries as soon as the public health situation improves."

The decision came as many other countries imposed travel bans on South Africa, following the announcement of a new Covid-19 variant on Thursday.

In reaction to the travel ban, South African Airways (SAA) announced that it will suspend flights to Mauritius with effect from Monday.

Apart from the service to Mauritius, SAA’s local and regional schedule remained unaffected, the airline said in a statement.

The last SAA flight on the Mauritius route will leave on Sunday. "SAA has put a bigger aircraft with a larger capacity on this route."

SAA added: "Customers who do not hold a Mauritian passport, nor residency in Mauritius but want to continue to travel to Mauritius on Sunday the 28 November 2021, will be required to sign an indemnity form on departure as SAA cannot guarantee their return as per the imposed travel ban."

Mauritius reopened its borders to international travellers on 1 October, after 18 months of closure. Since then, it has seen 100 000 visitors.

Guys,

Thanks for the well wishes. We returned Friday and I'll do a report as soon as I can get to it. Mauritius is out of way but a great destination and only 3.5 hours from JNB. I feel so sorry for the island's tourist biz as they were just getting everything up to speed and now they are closed again.
