JudgeG,

Another lovely transformation!

What caliber was your rifle? Is it one of the "new" Safari Magnums with the American stock? I have been told they are a variation done in the States by CZ-USA, but I suspect they would be a very popular as a stand opition from the the factory..

Regards,

Pete

JudgeG,

Thats pretty much my understanding of the situation too..I had seen a few complaints about the quality of the wood CZ-USA were fitting...somebody even said it was like balsa wood it was that light!

However, I think that your rifle proves otherwise...I know CZ also marketed a CZ550 American Prestige but only available in .270Win and 30-06...That came with a real nice upgraded stock and I am wondering it thats what they used on yours...

Regards,

Pete

Here are a couple of pictures of my CZ that started off with an "American" stock. It has been refinished, re-checkered, a new bolt, a three-position safety (CZ option), a barrel band swivel, two new cross bolts (one barrel mounted on a newly installed barrel lug... note under the checkering). The CZ stamping was ground/polished out, the gun slow rust blued and the stock glass bedded and sealed. The trigger guard is from an old Model 70 and the trigger (not the mechanics) replaced with a wider Model 70 type.

Rings are Talley's and the Scope is a 2.5 Leupold with a post reticle.

Roger's primary instructions were to first, make it strong! Second was to make it pretty. I've not had a chance to shoot it yet, but it sure looks sturdy... not to mention pretty.

I like it!!!

Just send your CZ to Roger, your deposit to Ray... and come July 27th I'll meet you in The Selous.

1b404:

It cost about $1800 to $1300 less than a Dakota. Let's see, $1000 or a bit more for the rifle and the fancy stock, the rest is gunsmithing and parts. I'll let Roger Ferrell quote anyone interested. I have several projects going and just send Roger half of my paycheck each week.

Tomorrow, I should have pictures of the double rifle he just did some stock work on. I'll post them when when Roger sends them. Mbogo375 and I were supposed to go to Atlanta tomorrow, but duty calls at work, and I'll be trying to help some folks in a mess, but I'm hoping that Jim gets the rifles a few hours closer... Go to Atlanta, Jim!

dear judge G

lovely looking CZ, i'm just about to buy one in 416 rigby in the RSA. I just looked at your scope mounted on it and am wondering what mounts & scope i should get.

Yours looks very compact and with long eye relief that should clear anyones forehead, even for a stock crawler like me.

what scope do you have, my intial order was for a leupold 1.5-5 compact on standard steel mounts, what would you reccomend?

The rifle is for my work as an accompanying guide on some game preserve hunting in the RSA and for a buffalo hunt in the valley next august or so.

cheers tm

It is a .458 Lott. It is my understanding that the stocks are made in the U.S. and mated with CZ actions made in the Czech Republic. I think???? the Lotts are re-chambered in the U.S., too.

Here are some more pictures.
