I will be leaving in some 4 weeks on my first African DG hunt and of course try to psyche myself into the best preparedness.
One learns by doing ,but unfortunately one seldom has the money to afford the various opportunities to learn and get the required experience to stand (semi-)calm in the face of actual, maybe dangerous situations.
So one reads and listens, trying hopefully to internalise the offered wisdom as best as one can - to be ready with a running start.
In that vein,I wonder what the opinions are re the value of available VHS/DVD material. Are they mostly entertaining or did they help somebody "facing down death?"

I realize every situation is different and dangerous situations to be avoided, but as recently shown in this thread ,they appear inspite of.

thanks for constructive opinions

Sheephunter,

I read the Perfect Shot..shows where vitals are and bone structure is found...So you will know all the angles...Ask Ph any question you want...I leave for my DG hunt buff and ele on 14 days today...Told my son if anything happens run up to animal and stick barrel in its ear and fire...Less likely to have pass thrus hitting PH or his dad...
There is a video In the Jaws of Simba if you do a search there is a short clip of the charge and client shoots lion of PH...Makes your hair stand up...accurate shooting is a hell of a lot better then lots of misses..
Good luck with your hunt..

Mike

I think most hunting videos/dvds are more entertaining than educational, with a quick succession of kill scenes seperated by some 'conversations' between the hunter and the guide about the animals and the region....does help to see the reaction of animals to different shots, but not much else (for me at least).

retreever,thanks
I finally buckeled and got Robinson's little handbook too.
Helps to focus on pictures ,more so than just understanding the concept.Dont know whether his big book adds enough to warrant the steep price.
Good luck on your own trip,I know you are sitting on coals
Boghossian , I figured that much but welcome actual experience.Nothing wrong with entertainment, but--.Thanks so much for sharing your impression.
