I wonder if they fly out a team of vets every time the lions do that to a buffalo or zebra? Kind of funny reading the comments on the photo site, they apparently don't understand that the lion was trying to "murder" the buffalo and the buffalo was just defending its family.

It is a superficial wound the horn just lifted a skin flap there is no muscle or internal injury, you can see the lioness walking. Nevertheless if not treated it would surely have died from infection.
I know very well what a Cape Buffalo can do to a human. My wife Niki was nearly killed by a wounded bull. Its been 10 years this June. We will mark the date by going back to Zim and whacking a few more Buffalo. She has killed several good bulls since then as well. We have a very healthy respect for Nyati. If you hunt Buffalo you should too!
Well, I wish there was a video of her walking. Obviously she got caught in the hook of the horn. She seemed surprizingly well in the still photos with such a serious wound. It may be that she would have healed up having a tremendous scar. I'm thinking that it was mostly just her hide being ripped apart with not too much muscle damage. A very lucky cat that she wasn't incapacitated at the moment of attack.
