Frank, your kudu is worth hanging on the wall mate. thumb

I shot a 54 in Zim along with my 56 incher and I have better memories of the smaller bull because it was such an exciting hunt for him; whereas the 56 was a long shot, but sheer bloody luck that we spotted him on the opposite kopje!

Well , I cannot claim the Holy Grail, but we have hunted some nice ones,

375fanatic is correct in his advice though I have personally seen over 25 sets of Kudu horns in the Triangle, Burgersfort,Lydenburg,Ohrigstad that went over 60, my cousin and his son are farmers out there, and he has taken a 64 and his son at 17 a 67 - what does boy have to look forward too for the rest of his life - I can still dream about the big one

Fjold, at least your kudu was a mature bull, unlike some of the immature bulls I have seen posted before. To me, shooting an immature bull, is worse than shooting a soft bossed buffalo bull. At least, with the buffalo bull, the taxidermist can make your buff's bosses look real, but an immature kudu, even over 60 inches, will aways look immature. Sure, I have had clients shoot kudu with the tips not pointing either up or out again, but I really have tried to avoid it like the plague. A too young kudu just looks "incomplete" to me. Maybe I should start a threat on when is a kudu mature/ a trophy...

Ja Charl, joune is langer, maar ek sou hom wragtag nie skiet nie... Wink

Karl, very good idea!! I had a very lenghty argument with a PH of ours earlier this year when they came into camp with a 48" 5 year old bull. Frederik will vouch for me on how many times I have pleaded with PH's not to shoot them to young...., but there is a lo of pressure and it happend, although I try to avoid it as well like the plague......Well said and I endorse it 100%

Ek het nie van die kudu geprat ni ou maat, ma dankie dat jy hom in elk geval nie sal skiet nie.... Big Grin

So how do you tell if the kudu is mature? i alweays thought that ivory at the tips was the sign. if the tips point inwards rather than outwards, does that make it immature?
