I am suffering some confusion when it comes to the lowveld area known as Sengwe. I have heard of Sengwe, Sengwe I and Sengwe II. Can someone explain the differences and who controls each?

As far as I'm aware Sengwe 2 is the corner (Crooks Corner) of Zim that forms the south east boundary to Mozambique and South Africa.
Supposedly a good area for Big Lion, Ele, Buff, Scorpions and Mamba. Possibly also Land Mines.

Aubrey is spot on, a little more info, Sengwe 2 belongs to Anne Bradfield ( late Carl Bradfields' wife )some will remember that Carl had an unfortunate incident with an elephant a few years ago in that area. She still owns Acacia safaris, Bruce Rensburg has been added as a director to run operations, he has however not paid Anne as he is waiting for deposits from Tod Lutman Confused some confusion as well with council as I know Anne very well and she has been trying to smooth waters with council in that area killpc

seems like South Africa is expanding her boundries as that bottom half of Zim is a ' new republic............ clap

The research station there next to Chirisa was the old stomping grounds of ganyana and supposedly sacred ground except when the "new" gov't took it over and then the race was on to shoot all the semi-tame elephant there.

Guess I was too slow and too respectful and just too damn late to kill a tame tusker.

Will, you are talking about SENGWA RESEARCH... adjacent to Chirisa the ' other Sengwa' areas mentioned here are the 2 areas in the south of Zim on the Limpopo river near Gonez..

Will,

I hunted Sengwe Research this past November for tuskless. I can assure you the elephants there are anything but tame now.

I read this thread with interest because I had always thought that my camp in the Chirisa safari district (back in '93)overlooked a dry bed of the Sengwa river -and Martin Pieter's post kinda reassures me about that. (Our camp was about 300 yards away) Was I confused about names and dealing with a tributary that dried up in the dry season?

Gerrypeters - the rivers that run through Sengwe which is in the South East of Zimbabwe, right north of the Kruger National Park is the Limpopo river, which is Southern Boundry of Zim and the Bubi River on the western boundry of Sengwe1

The Sengwe does run in front of the camp at Charisa. The Sengwa is a river on the west border of Chete Safari Area along Lake Kariba. Lot's of confusion on these as well as the Sengwe 1 and 2.

A map with clear arrows might help us all! Is Sengwa with an A different from Sengwe with an E or is it the same are with either spelling?

465H&H:

Many thanks for your post. I was in Chirisa in '93 -and over the years found myself wondering if I had been hearing names wrong or what. (Hearing that there is a Sengwe further confused me. I was quite sure that the river in front of me, as my PH told me in quite clear "British" English (Am I allowed to say that any more?)Smiler was the Sengwa. (I even watched elephants crossing where the PH told me they always did -and doing it by walking across in the dry bed. (What I always liked about the river was that there were no crocs in it -as I saw it anyway. Smiler

One of my PHs told me that there were crocs that stayed in some deep holes on the Sengwe that didn't dry up during the dry season.
I don't know uf that is true or not.
