In regards to Chris Troskie's thread about having all his computer and client information destroyed by a fire: http://forums.accuratereloadin...1411043/m/3031075081

This thread reminded me to share something with you guys that I believe many of you will benefit from. I know many of you who frequent AR are outfitters/guides/PH's and handle most (if not all) of your client information with computers. In addition, I also know many of you are like myself....and treasure the photos from the hunts you've made over the years. Hopefully you have electronic copies of all your photos on your computer, but in the case of fire, theft, flood, computer virus, etc...things can be lost very easily.

Backup hard drives have been the primary method of "extra" protection against some of this, but as was illustrated in Chris' thread....a fire will likely destroy both your computer and your backup hard drive.

I subscribe to an online backup service called Carbonite. It allows you to set up an account for whichever computer you would like to backup....and once the software is installed, it automatically backs up all your information (files, documents, photos, etc...) onto an online server anytime you change something on your computer. This protects all your information from being destroyed. If your computer is destroyed or stolen, you simply acquire a new computer....and you are then able to restore all your files and information onto the new machine. Not only this, but Carbonite also allows you to access all of your files from ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. All you need is a decent internet connection....you simply log in, and browse your files just as they are set up on your home computer....and you are also able to download individual files at your convenience.

It was recommended to me by a friend of mine who works in the IT industry....and it has been excellent. It is also quite reasonable at only $59 per year (per computer) for unlimited storage space on their online server. I have been using it for 2 years and it is worth every penny for the peace of mind, and convenience of accessing files from any computer with internet.

Here is a link to their website: http://www.carbonite.com/en/v2/index

I hope some of you find this helpful....and make use of their great service. In my opinion, it is the best way to protect your photos and documents. My heart goes out to Chris as well...because I know how much of a pain in the ass it can be to lose important information.

sounds like a great service. I keep my computer backup hard drive and about 30 discs in my safe.
While working as a commercial photographer I had a large file lost and had to learn the lesson the hard way.

I would like to add that I'm not affiliated with the company in any way....I just wanted to pass along the information to fellow hunters.

It is probably not enough but I back up all my photos on an external hard drive once per year. Have one I leave in my mom's safe and one in my safe.
