Wild animals desecrate graves - by Magreth Nunuhe WINDHOEK – In what is suspected to be the work of wild animals or possibly witchcraft, five fresh graves were found dug up at Kalpan in the Epukiro Constituency last week. Nelson Hauanga, a resident of Kalpan related to New Era that when they went to bury someone last weekend, they found several graves with “holes” in them. He said upon inspection, they found that the graves were dug up so deep that some human bones were found under the coffins or on the surface of the graves. “I don’t believe it was the work of people, you can tell from the way the graves were dug,” said Hauanga. He said they suspect that wild animals (ozondjimbandjimba) dug into the graves but they found no tracks of the animals because of tall grass. Hauanga said if the graves were dug up by people as some seem to believe, they would have been able to tell because people would most probably have used spades. He said the community has decided to collect money and to call in a witchdoctor so as to determine the truth. But, he would also not rule out the possibility of calling in the help of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the police.
