We are heading to Windhoek in May. Should have 5 or 6 heads to have mounted. Trying to decide to have work done here in Houston or there. I have the estimated cost prep the heads then to get the hides and horns here to Houston then the cost to Mount. When looking at mounting there I have the Taxidermy fees and packing costs. The Taxidermist gave me the name of "I.F.N. Airfreight Logistics" who in turn gave me a rate for about $1065/100KGs "All charges cif IAH (Houston)" I assume that is to the IAH airport. Is there then an additional person I would need to deal with here in Houston to clear the package?? If so who???? As usual just my $.02 Paul K

You will have to clear customs and I believe, Agriculture. We clear our shipments, here in St. Thomas, and we plan to air freight our trophies from Windhoek to Miami, fly to Miami, clear the shipments and ocean freight them to St. Thomas. You can clear the shipments yourself, or, hire someone like Coopersmith to do it for you

while i much prefer to have taxidermy work done where i can grab ahold of the taxidermist by the throat if he screws it up, there are a couple of advantages to having it done there. #1 the stuff comes into the country as a product, and so you don't have the mess with ag dept or cdcc with hogs or primates. #2 you can save a bunch of money by hving it brought back on ship rather than by air.(my last was about 1/3 as much)
