I still have over 7 weeks before I set foot in the Dark Continent again. For nearly a year, I have missed the smells, sights, and sounds of a country that has taken my soul for her own. To hear the roar of the lions, the hippos walking past, or nuzzling the tents, the sounds of the leopards coughing at night, the chuckling of the hyenas...........all looking for something to eat.
To walk into a herd of elephants, all of us on high alert, hoping the .500 I carry is enough to keep me from harm.
Following herds of buffalo, feeling the jesse tear at you from all sides. Feeling the swirl of the wind, knowing the 3 hour stalk is busted.....
Over 7 weeks left before I leave and already, I am dreading coming home. What is it that keeps my soul from being well while I am away from her? It's like an illicit affair while I am there, knowing I have to come back to the real world, away from my mistress. While I can't wait and am jealous of the "I leave tomorrow" posts, the building excitement, I also have time to make sure the gear I am taking is perfect for the occasion. The "ups" and "downs" of our mistress leaves me wanting...........

...tsetse fly bites on the tips of your fingers and blisters wet the soles of your feet. Noses clogged with dust and the acrid scent of diesel. Dehydration stamps dark circles around your eyes and your flesh sings to the rash of the buffalo bean.

Enjoy it.

Rick, my wife says Africa is the only mistress she will allow! Methinks if she knew how much Africa really costs, she'd actually prefer I hook up with the real thing!!

Roughly 90 days for me. A new destination this time ... Moz!

My wife & I always hunt on safari together and I wouldn't want it any other way...So...I guess adding Africa into our relationship makes it a threesome!

Rick - You left off a few things.....like that hot shower waiting for you back at camp at the end of the day after walking 10-15 miles following buffalo or elephant spoor.....and after the shower, the smell of the mopane fire, the taste of that first single malt Scotch, and watching the Southern Cross move across the African sky... Yes, I do not depart until 19 August, and I am already missing Africa as well

127 days and I'll be off to Mozambique for my 35 day, (becoming and annual thing) adventure. Still some shooting to do, keep working out, try and get the 6/7 pounds off gained over the Winter. Seems like a long time, but Mother Africa is a patient lady and the wait only makes it more exciting.

That reminds me of something that happened in a hunting camp I attended a few years ago!

Chris Sells (Heym USA) Mark Cash (Nitro 400) and I were in camp one morning and Mark was suffering from a bad back. Mark snores loudly so I laughed and made the comment that Mark had snored so loudly that he threw his back out of joint. To which Chris said “Well Mac if that is the case, YOU should be paralyzed from the neck down!”

You mean you're supposed to take a shower? shocker
And you DRINK alcohol as well? shocker shocker
Yes, sir! I did forget a couple of things. All the load preparation, range/trigger time, all the anticipation of another exciting adventure.
Mr Shores, if I have half as good a time as I did in Florida with you and Mr Sullivan, the trip will exceed my expectations.
Mr Bieber, I don't believe I snore. I've never heard myself snore. Is this supposition on your part? jumping

Beibs, right, it's a typo, should be 76 pounds. Roll Eyes If I lost 67/76 pounds would have to leave the Blaser at home because I would be tooooo skinny to carry it.

My lucky number is at 110. Departure for Namibia is mid August for two weeks before transferring to Zimbabwe for 21 more.

Going to be a busy second half of 2014 with me hunting all but a few days through the rest of the year.
