Long Grass Outfitters are great folks and post here. They have their own and have different sizes.

You can also get them from Boyt. There's are a little snug on me, but I have bigger than average calves and ankles.

You are looking for "gaiters" - just do a Google search and you will find many sellers.

Wearing "ankle gators" might work to keep the rocks and dirt out of your boots, but their teeth cause big scars and their big tails flop around a lot and really slow you down. Big Grin

Cotton twill.

Personal preference stuff, I guess, but if you ask guys that have been down the leather gator route, they are cool looking but they are hot and take for ever to dry out after getting wet from the dew or whatever.

I have used the ones from Boyt Harness mentioned above and am satisfied. You do have to put them on before your boots as they slide on and do not snap on.

You are correct. I have both the Boyt canvas model and a leather pair I made. Leather pair is quieter, more pliable and softer, but they can indeed be hot.

I NOW have the Boyt's but I have to say that these are a much better looking design. I can see where the lace hook would give even better protection.

BTW, it's no so much rocks and such getting in your boots, it's the damn seeds, thorns and grass stems that get caught in your socks and turn you ankles into frikkin hamburger.

That and they're very quiet.

They also have a Velcro opening that allows one to remove them without removing your boot. Never had a problem with them opening accidentally.

The cord goes under the arch of your shoe. That and the hook, keep them right where they should be.

The REI design looks like an improvement over the typical designs, especially with the hook. As noted, the main concern is those darned grass seeds that spin/twist into your skin.

Mike, I think I speak for JAD and all other right-thinking consumers when I say: I want a pair of those!

They appear to me to be the finest gators I have ever seen! Cool

They even work without boots! Big Grin thumb

I have a pair of the REI gaiters in black. They are waterproof nylon and do a great job of keeping the seeds and stickers out of your boots and socks.

Another vote for the gaiters from Long Grass. I recently bought the leather version. The hook keep the gaitors in place and the velcro works good. They are great people, who give great service and advice. I used their gaitors, rifle vest and shirts during my recent safari and it functioned great. Also, the quality is of a high level.
