Recently there was a post about hunting on Hwange. I believe it was linked to an article by Johnny Rodrigues who suffers some credibilty issues among hunters. This may offer some more proof.

These photos were taken recently (date and time stamped by the trail cam) on Hwange.

Anybody that has visited Hwange will recognize the markers. This one reads "Sinamatella/Main camp" and is not close to any border.

Can anybody help identify these guys? One of the shirts appears to have Sable Safaris on the back.

Mike, while it is pure speculation on my part, the fact that the vehicle is a Hilux and not a Cruiser, would certainly suggest that it is not Zimbos. Looks like a South African or Zambian rig. My recollection is that Sable Safaris is owned by Pieter Bothma for what that is worth.

Pity to see anyone hunting in Hwange. A true tragedy.

I wouldn't be too certain about that. My Zim PH, Lance Nesbitt, from Bulawayo owned and drove a Hilux on my Zambezi Valley Hunt. In any event, don't go on the type of vehicle being driven. And I certainly agree with it being a tragedy in Hwange.

I agree with UEG. The Toyota HILUX is used by a number of Zimbos as is the Indian vehicle whose name escapes me. Terry Anders has a HILUX (brown) as well as his Cruisers.

Doesn't say much for the trackers not seeing the camera.

Jeff,

If they have on the ground permission they might not care about the cameras.

Mike, are there any other trail camera pictures that might show the license plate of the vehicle, that might help identify the country of origin? I presume not since you did not post them.

No pictures of the license plates.

There are several Sable Safaris out there and the guy with the shirt could be a client, freelance PH, etc.

I was hoping somebody would recognize anybody on the truck or maybe even the truck itself.

Thanks for the help.

I personally have been to visit a National Park in the same hunting Cruiser we just completed hunting out of after we completed our hunting portion of the safari in Tanzania. We did not take any rifles but did take the trackers as they wanted to see the park as well. So could this be the case?

Both.

Public execution of the bastards would be fine with me.

When I hunted Ngamo-Sikumi last September we took a day off to drive around the park. We entered at Main Camp.

At first, we were denied entry by the gate guard, who was adamant that we could not enter in the Cruiser. We went over to speak to the warden, who told us that we could not drive in the park in a hunting vehicle. He finally compromised by letting us remove the high seat and after we agreed to his instruction to remain seated in the back of the vehicle. He was clearly sensitive to even the appearance of hunting in the park.

These guys look like they are hunting to me - see the shooting sticks poking out the back of the truck?

Andrew look closer the rims are not different only different sizes. The fronts are narrower, than the back but both are the same mag. That is the way this truck is imported into the USA, but may be different on the ones sent to Africa.

If this is not members of a drive, then they have their rifles well hidden because I don't see a firearm anywhere in that vehicle. That of course doesn't mean there aren't any!

If they are illegal that Hilux should soon have park paint job on it, and the occupants be resting in a Zim prison!

I did receive another email they do have the license plates. The white Hilux in the picture is a Zim vehicle. The vehicle that dropped them off at the park was a Mitsubishi Triton double cab I believe that is a South Africa plate.

There was plenty of elephant meat in the butchery at Sinamatella the next day, coincidence I am sure.

Hopefully Parks pursues this like the Matetsi poaching incident.

Yes, for sure Parks takes poaching seriously- just like they take quota allocation/export permits/etc. seriously in the Save. face it, Parks in Zim is now simply an extension of Zanu-PF bureaucracy. you want a conservancy with export quota in Zim? it's easy. just be a member of the Politburo( or have a comrade who is) and it is a done deal. when was the last time you even heard the term "Politburo" outside of references to North Korea/China? even if overwhelming evidence of poaching in Hwanke is found- NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO THE BASTARDS IF THEY HAVE THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS!!!
