I really like Jim Dubell of Delta gunshop for the metal work and Bill Soverns for the stockwork. Bill is finishing up a stock on a pre 64 Winchester in 375 h&h for me right now.

I have a Jim Kobe Sako .375 H&H, and am quite pleased with his work, & he's very reasonable. I'd recommend him.

If you go back some on the big bore forum to the 450G&A pics you'll see some of his work.

Hi Terry:

I live in Allentown PA, not sure exactly where Greensburg is. Are you near Pittsburg?

Anyway, I have about four full blown custom rifles. My favorite gunsmith is Less Knipe, Kinipe Rifles...aka The Varmint Shop. He is located just outside of Allentown.

His phone number is 610-395-8146. He is a gunsmith for the past 25 years and is a master at it.

Regards... Jim P.

I do not have the adequate funds nor time left on this planet, but next time you happen to be in New York City, (used to go there on business two to three times a year,) check out 10 East 40th Street, Suite 1910, phone: 212 752 7755
M-F 10am-6pm These fine folks will build you a rifle and one that will be an investment for many decades to come and instantly recognized world wide-Holland & Holland. Of course you could take this approximate amount of funds, probably buy two or three of the other magazine rifles available out there, go on a hunting trip, etc., but you still will not have a genuine Holland and Holland Rifle. I had the pleasure of visiting their facility in England seveal years ago and still have fond and vivid memories of the place and grand firearms housed there.

I would have Griffin & Howe do the work. I have 3 rifles that G&H has done various levels of work.

Since you are in Pa. you could have Clarence Hammonds build one for you. Can do as good as the best and is famous for his accurate rifles.
Clarence lives in Pa.

Greensburg is about 30 miles SE of Pittsburgh.

Of you check the date on the initial post you will see that it is a bit out of date. I shelved the project when I checked another Model 70 that I inherited and discovered that it was not a 300 WM, rather it was a 300 H&H. Since I now had one, I saw no reason to go ahead and have another built. I'm still interested in who the best gun builders are because I may decide to go that route some day.

Nate Heineke of www.nlheineke.com is about finished building a Holland style back-action sidelock double rifle for me in 450-400 3 1/4. He is also building a .375 H&H on a Winchester P14 action. He worked 5 years at Giffin and Howe and his work is excellent. His phone number is 307-745-8592. He flew in a gentleman from G&H to fit me for the double. Exceptional work.
