Trying to get an estmate on shipping cost for a pair of around forty pound tusk from Zim to the west coast. Has anyone shipped in the last year and what were you charges, and who did the shipping?? Thaks in advance.

AnotherAZWriterI shipped two 50 lb tusks, a hippo skull, lion, leopard, zebra full skins, two buff skulls, the cat skulls, eland skull, cape and backskin and various other skulls/horns. Bill was $2900 incl my broker fee and shipping to my taxidermist in PHX.
It seems shipping is always between 2-3 kilobucks for me; doesn't much matter what is in the crates. Then again, you are only shipping one crate. But I wouldn't think you will get by for less than a 1000.

KathiTwo tusks and two ears (tanned) from Zim to Atlanta $1850.31 January 2009 including clearing fees, etc in the U.S. Trophies were then forwarded to Reno, which was a minimal charge. Used Coppersmith to clear and HHK Safaris was the shipper.
The freight shipping charge only was $1,079.95

makiThose prices look high to me. Last week I got a 43 kg crate from Lusaka to Calgary for <$500 on BA. Is there a different price scale for different weights of crates?

Idaho SharpshooterSize matters more I think.
Ivan is too modest to post, but
www.wildlifegallery.com in Michigan has handled matters for a large number of his clients with complete satisfaction. Dan and his lovely wife Char quoted me some very reasonable prices at Reno.

BlankWe used Andy Hunter for our shipments from Harare, and couldn't have been happier. Ivan is spot on with his reccommendation. Everything came thru in really good condition. Then Maria with Hunter Int'l cleared them for me. I picked up my stuff from my taxidermist here in Salt Lake City this weekend, after they forwarded them on from San Francisco.
My box was 24"x28"x48" and weighed about 85 lbs. It had 4 elephant panels of tanned leather, 2 ears, the buff skull and cape, and the impala and bushbuck skulls and capes.
Airfreight from HRE/JNB/LHR/SFO was $715.63, All the documentation, handling and fees was $360.00, with another $70.00for RSA transit fee.
