Ladies and Gentlemen,

In line with our recent discussion on safari footwear and the importance of quality socks, I have read good reviews of the Bridgedale Socks

I recently ordered three pair of the Bridgedale CoolMax® Wool Trekking Socks from Sierra Trading Post. Note the socks I ordered were "Seconds" with slight cosmetic irregularities but nothing that seems to affect the fit or performance.

I have been on a couple of 3 mile walks in these socks. I am pretty impressed with the quality and comfort of these socks. They are soft and have good cushioning. It's not hot enough here to really get a feel for the MMS (Moisture Management System) effectiveness of the socks. If you are looking for some quality socks, check out the Bridgedale socks. If you don't mind a few slight imperfections, Sierra Trading Post has some good prices and a wide selection of Bridgedale socks (at the link above).

Regards,

Terry

Just a heads up for anybody outside the US considering dealing with this company:

I ordered some stuff from this company and had it shipped to me here in Sweden.

The goods were satisfactory, but I was charged a HUGE amount more for shipping than they promised.

I was very careful to investigate shipping costs (by expensive phone call from Sweden to the US) BEFORE I placed my order to avoid just this sort of thing.

The company has refused to make things right, so if you are outside the US, do NOT order from these bozos! After promising $US 35 for shipping, they screwed me for an extra $US 55 in shipping charges beyond what they promised.

I will not deal with them again.

John,

Sorry to hear that you have had problems with Sierra Trading Post. I have ordered stuff from them for years and have not had any problems. Of course, I am in the US.

Regards,

Terry

I too have had nothing but good luck and better service from STP in the past. The international shipping charges might be tough to swallow, when looking for good deals, tho. Whenever we are in Cody, we stop at the discount store and load up on quality items at greatly reduced prices.

I have never put much thought into what socks to wear on safari. Any old daggy ones seems to work for me.

The SmartWool socks simply cannot be beat for longevity and for blister prevention - especially when worn with thin "liner" socks under them.

They are not cheap, but they are worth it. See the "trekking heavy crew" socks under the Outdoor category.
