Come on Nitro X, they are big but I am guessing twin 38's at the biggest! I have to admit though Mark that things have been a bit brutal on the old AR here lately. There are a number of new posters who don't add much in the way of experience or knowledge, just looking for someone to trash. On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. Hate to be the one to break the news but my guess is that they are synthetic. Yes synthetic will hold up well in field conditions but natural materials are better at conducting heat and are less slippery when wet Give me the old fashioned kind!

True enough, I always over-estimate size, until um ......... the tape measure comes out. (this thread is going seriously downhill which is great )

I just wonder how well regulated those doubles are. As far as synthectics there is only one way to find out for sure. I'm just the man for the job. For you guys, I'd jump on that grenade. No need to thank me I do it becuase I love my job. Greg Allyn ..Double tester.

Christer, you are the only guy I've ever watched make shooting a 460 Weatherby look like a 308, or 223. SCARY! GS

That's not Ngagi, that's some little thin fellow. Well done Ngagi! Looks like some gunpowder may have been burned that day.

Acutally, we are practicing for our next safari. On my first safari I used one gun for everything, an AK-47. What it lacks in knockdown power, it makes up in fast follow-up shots. However, after reading many of the posts on the African Hunting forum, I have decided to go with a two gun battery for my next safari. This time I will be taking my 50 BMG as my heavy rifle (the one Christer is holding) and my AR-15 as my light rifle. I know it will be tuff to take down an eland with one .223 bullet, but I plan on using 20 or 30. The real advantage of taking the AR-15 is you can take quite a bit of ammo since it is so light. For some reason, I don't think either of those calibers are real popular in Africa. Seems the 50 cal might make a good Mugabe round, and likewise the 223 equally good for large numbers of vermin. SA doesn't like either round, either. Christer: What sort of .50 is it? How well did it work? gs

GS It was a single feeder!? and it was fun to shot, I shoot about 8 rounds with it and both freehand and on the ground with the bipods. Other technical questions I pass on to Shumba.

Arikaander, Don't frett, I'm just foolin around re: the AR-15, Ak-47, & 50BMG for African hunting. I acutally used a Ruger RSM M77 416 Rigby on my eland. Oh yeah, the AK-47 I am holding is obviously (to those that have hunted Zim) the Govt. Game Scout's rifle. GS, The 50 BMG is a Serbu: http://www.serbu.com/bfg50.htm Basically a .50 cal pipe with a trigger and scope mount. However, it is very accurate. They use a Lothar Walther barrel. Also, the rifle is heavy and has a large muzzle brake so there is very little recoil. Just a lot of noise I only bought it because they banned them in California so I had to get one before the ban went into place. Mark Serbu basically said that they shipped more 50 BMG's to California in 2004 than they thought they would throughout the foreseable future of his company. Tim

I didn't realize the law allowed prior purchases. Should have known... Same with M1A 223,etc. For someone with a JD, I'm way behind the times...;-( gs
