One year ago we were sitting at the Oysterbox Hotel in Durban, awaiting the start of what some call the trip of a lifetime(that would assume only one safari, not possible).

Someone here said it first "envy those who are going to Africa for the first time".

In Ackeleys' book In Brightest Africa are the words. Old Arab Proverb " He that hath drunk of Africa's fountains, will drink again"

Just a little case of PSD kicking in, makes you frantic in trying to get the next trip under way.

The aniversary of the my first Africa trip will be Monday, June 13th. I remember seeing the smiling face of someone who I didn't know approaching me at the baggage claim there in Durban, my PH Mike.

I still rememebr our 3.5 hour conversation with on the way to hunting area just north of Hluhluwe. The smell of the fires burning in the sugarcane fields. The questions from both me and my PH trying to get a feel for each other. The ride gave us plenty of time to discuss what would take place on the hunt including the animals desired, daily scheduling, when/if the PH would shoot, etc.

Then I saw my first African animal, a hare running down the dirt road in front of the vehicle. Things I will remember the rest of my life.

I caught myself not able to sleep just last week. At 2:30 in the morning I was sitting in bed going through my picture album remembering my hunt. The animals I took, the ones I passed, the smells, sounds, and stars. Dreaming of returning and the animals I hope to take on my next adventure. What is it that keeps me thinking of Africa ... DESIRE!

I left a year ago today for my first trip to Africa. As mentioned there is no such thing as one. Trying to figure out when are where for the next one. Hanging around this place just to learn a bit while I wait for my trophies to return.
