I seem to remember a prior post stating today was the day that Omni reservations were going to be open? Do I have the date wrong?

I tried to book the Omni before 9:00am and it wouldn't let me. I had to be somewhere at 9:00 so came out of my meeting around 10:00 and they were already sold out. I really don't like playing this game every year. I might just stay home and deer hunt since it is the peak of the rut on my farm and the duck hunting is great also.

Looks like the Joule for me again...that's ok. I like it better and it's nice to get away from the convention crowds.

Would have been nice had I paid attention to the 10:00 am EASTERN time. Started getting on the site at 9:45 CENTRAL time only to receive an email at 9:48 saying the OMNI was sold out. Oh well....

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Me too!!! I was logging in about 9:50 Central time, but it was already sold out.

That was a complete crock of shit!! What local organization in Texas gives out times on anything basis Eastern Time??? Are the local monthly meetings scheduled on Eastern Time?? Complete Bullshit.

Like this past year, I'll probably pay up to book a room directly with the Omni again. However DSC will indirectly fund part of the gap, because I will not renew my or my son's membership. I'm still mad!!!

Go Duke!!

Convenience. What I don't understand is why DSC doesn't reserve a larger block of rooms. This same thing happens every year.

Stay at the aloft - walking distance

Sci adjusted for hotel is cheaper than dsc over 4 days even after paying sci $400.

Good question, Heym 450/400.

For me and Clara, the Omni is very convenient. We always spend all 4 days at the show, attend the Life Member Breakfast and sponsor a table at the banquets. We can go back to the room to relax or drop off kit and information that picked up at the show. Also, the Omni is a darn nice hotel.

Having said all of that, we are also getting very tired of the website games and disorganization on booking a room. The website was not working at the scheduled time and then it was asking for a never posted access code. Last year the deposit was charged in May and my CC company called me immediately to ask about the charge. Nothing about a hotel or DSC was listed in the charge. My CC company investigated and the name listed on the charge came up as a company operating a telemarketing scam. They blocked the charge and cancelled my card when they could not get a response during their investigation. Someone contacted me several weeks later to see if I still wanted my reservation, but it should have never came to that. What a pain in the 4th point of contact.

We love the show and we love seeing our old friends every year. DSC staff and volunteers do a great job of putting the show together and making it run smoothly. We do wish DSC would stop the awards for "those who killed the most". No matter what anyone thinks about what hunting does for conservation, an award for killing the most clashes hard with the DSC mission statement:

"TO CONSERVE WILDLIFE AND WILDERNESS LANDS; TO EDUCATE YOUTH AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THE RIGHTS AND INTEREST OF HUNTERS WORLDWIDE"

DSC would do much better focusing on giving awards that show a strong support for the mission statement. Every year DSC has shown improvement in that area. However, they should take the next step and stop the awards for the most killing.

Just my opinion and experiences. Fire away.

I agree with everything you said about DSC...I would just like to point out that other hotels in the area can be good alternative as well. For example..I stayed at the Joule last year and the concierge had a house car waiting to take us to the convention center and it's about a 5 minute ride...same to return back to the hotel. Some days I travelled back and forth multiple times and never felt it a hassle.

I would and could not be paid to stay in the Magnolia agai. No heat, water pipes burst, floors flooded, bad staff, and elevators shutdown. I was on the 24th floor.

There is no question that there are several nice hotels on the list. I have never cared what kind of hotel I stay. I would stay in a budget hotel to save money if there was one closer, but my wife comes with me and she likes to go back to the room and relax while I want to stay at the show all day. I don't like for her to return to the room alone unless it is the Omni. The booking game we have to play every year should tell them something. OFFER TWICE AS MANY ROOMS. Speaking of great hotels, I just booked at the Adolphus.

The Omni has 1001 rooms and the DSC block is all available rooms. With way over 500 exhibitors and thousands of members and attendees in the tens of thousands it should be easy to see why it sells out so fast and why so many have to stay in other hotels.

But I understand that when you're the one that missed out all the explanation in the world doesn't help. I've been in the same boat several times in the past. We'll keep working to make it better.

How about you send the booking note using the same time zone used in EVERY OTHER EMAIL SENT BY DSC??

At different times we have stayed in different hotels in Dallas at DSC. We stayed in ZaZa but will never again. Magnolia wasn't so great either. Others too.

When we booked in to the A Loft and arrived there and found it be a bit trendier I was starting to grouch some already.

But we had a great stay at the Aloft and they were on top of everything except parking and even that wasn't bad to tell you the truth. And we could walk away from DSCand be there in 5 minutes. Then we stayed there again with the same results. I am liking the A Loft. So y'all don't book it all up.

It's really simple...DSC reserves the entire hotel.

We were able to get rooms at the A Loft but not without some drama.

Apparently there was some sort of code that was needed. I have no idea what the code is. Finally my wife got rooms as an exhibitor.

Y'all can have the Omni. Too crowded for me. The only time I have regretted that was the during the snow last year. My thin FL blood was showing!

The Hyatt is adequate and I'm used to it. Bus pick up and drop off is easy. The restaurants are quite lost at times, but the bar service was better this past January. I've never witnessed a well run valet parking service at any full hotel anywhere.
