OK, OK, rub it in, someone will be calling you ugly names you know, and I might add deservidly so!!

But you two are no match for Chief Bula Bula (Walter), who removed your hex on me that very night in a serious cermony, as only a great witch doctor can do, and the following day I scored a buff that probably went close to 48 inches as best I recall!! so there!!

Then remember the very very skinny bull Richard and I shot, he was a real dugga boy, but extremely skinney for some reason, you blamed it on the Lions, but I suspect another conspiracy, maybe Walter ate him....

Great story! It's also good that your shot did not exit, or you might be digging a walterhog out of Ray!

With the 1st buffalo, was the first shot the one lower on the snout or the higher one? Which one hit the brain?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There have been many versions of the following story, but, I assure you this is how it really happened.

We were driving along one afternoon, looking for buffalo. The area we hunted was rather hilly, and one normally drives to the top of a mountain, and use his glasses to look for the buffalo. Once they have been located, one makes plans for the approach.

As we got to the top of one of the mountains, we could see the Landrover in the distance. In that Landrover were Ray and his PH, Richard, who were looking for buffalo as well.

A few days earlier, we found a herd and shot one bull from it. 5 minutes later Ray, Richard, Dwight and Todd appeared. Apparently they saw the same herd from the top of one of the mountains, and came down to shoot one.

Unfortunately, we got there first, and killed one of their buffalo.

Pierre, my PH: "Imagine if we both see the same herd again, and we manage to get to the buffalo before them and shoot one! Ray and Richard will get really mad at us"

I said: "If this happened again, they will think it is all a conspiracy"

About 20 minutes later, the boys mentioned that they could hear tick birds. Which normally hang around buffalo. They pointed to an area with very long grass, so we decided to give that a miss.

A few yards further, they saw some buffalo standing about 20 yards from teh truck in verey thick bush.

We jumped out, and Pierre saw 3 bulls standing together. He told me to shoot whichever I could see. I looked through the scope, with my rifle resting on his shoulders, and could see one bull looking straight at us. Part of his face and one horn was visible, and nothing else.

I put the crosshair between his nose and eyes, and pulled the tyrigger. He dropped in his tracks.

"Come, let us shoot another one!" said Pierre.

I put another bullet into the one we have shot, as he was lying struggling on the ground.

The other two bulls were running across the river, most of which was dry sand.

I fired a shot at one of the bulls, and we could hear the bullet connect. He ran a few yards and stopped. I put another bullet into him, which dropped him.

We got close to him, and as he was still alive, I fired another shot into him.

We found a relatively new wound in this bull. It was still open, and had a bad smell to it. You can see the hole in the following photo.

We found a Trophy Bonded 416 caliber bullet just under the skin on the other side of his back; penetrated less than 12 inches.

It looks like a bullet has gone through another animal, and hit this one, from the obvious lack of penetration.

It then dawned on us that Ray and Richard were stalking the same herd!!?? As We could see the Landrover about 400 yards way parked in the dry river.

This was confirmed a few minutes later, when Horst arrived, to hear Alan say "did you come to borrow a buffalo?"

Horst: "Where are the others?" Meaning Ray and Richard. He said they saw the three bulls standing by teh river, and went to try to shoot one of them.

Ray Afterwards confirmed they must have been about 100 yatrds when we shot that bull. It was obvious these 3 bulls were laying an ambush for Ray and Richard, it is just as well we came from another direction and saved them.

Great shooting. It appears Walter didn't adjust your scope for you before that day's hunt. Ray should be thankful that you shot his buffaloes.

Bill,

There was only one shot fired into his head, and that is the one you can clearly see as a hole.

The rest are all blood splutters.

The bullet did not hit the brain at all, but, passed to the left and below it. The bullet came out behind the neck.

The second shot I fired into him was from behind. Into his chest through the stomach.
