Saturday July 17, 2010 Local News One held for possessing govt trophy From PETI SIYAME in Sumbawanga, 16th July 2010 @ 12:00, POLICE in Rukwa Region are holding Hashim Ngamila (32), a peasant from Mpanda District for allegedly possessing government trophy, including six tails of elephants. Mr Ngamila of Kashaulili Street in Mpanda Township was also allegedly caught red handed with elephant meat hidden in his house. The value of the meat was not immediately established. Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC), Isuto Mantage told reporters here on Friday that the incident occurred yesterday shortly after mid night following a tip from the public. The RPC said further that Ngamila who has featured on the list of most wanted people for quite some time as a hardcore poacher, was allegedly accused of trespassing and poaching at Katavi National Park in the district. According to RPC Mantage, the suspect will soon be arraigned in court once preliminary investigations were complete. In another incident, police here are holding Mwanahamisi Shabani (55), a resident of Mtisi village in Mpanda District for allegedly brewing illicit brew popularly known here as 'gongo.' Ms Shabani was also found with 100 litres of gongo during a special operation conducted in several areas in the district. The RPC Mantage said that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon and that the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as possible.
