Who has used this bullet, either as a component or in factory ammo, for plains game? Or anything else, for that matter. Experiences? Impressions? Bad experiences? Thanks. -WSJ

I have a few rifles in 9.3, but I haven't used this particular bullet on game. However, I routinely use Hornadys for other hunting calibers, & they are my second choice only behind the Swift bullets (both A-Frames & Sirroccos). In my opinion Hornady makes a very good bullet; performed excellent on Australian water buffalo. ____________________________ .470 & 9.3X74R Chapuis' Tikka O/U 9.3X74R Searcy Classics 450/.400 3" & .577 C&H .375 2 1/2" Krieghoff .500 NE Member Dallas Safari Club

I must confess I do not have any 9.3 x 74R rifles but have used their .375 270 grn sp core locked bullets in my .375 flanged and .375 H&H many times on game the size of Eland ,Moose, and the lot. I have never had any core/jacket seperations using Hornadys core locked bullets. In fact I killed a Cow Cape in the 80's in self defense using their now defunct 300 grn round nose core locked. I dont think you would go wrong using them on the game they were intended to be used on. Charlie.

Thanks, guys. It sounds like I'm not far off the mark in my thinking about using the Hornady's for plains game (general run of antelope up to eland, plus sebra and blue wildebeest). I'm loading for a Ruger No. 1 9.3x74R and will try to duplicate factory ballistice (~2350-2400 fps). I figured a decently constructed bullet at these velocities was unlikely to give me issues but this is my first 9.3 and first trip to Africa and I'm obsessing about everything (and enjoying it immensely). Thanks again. -WSJ

At 9.3x62 velocities you should do just fine.

In South Africa we tend to use Hornady a lot. The interlock is accurate in my CZ 550 9.3x62. However for a little bit more the interbond is a much better projectile for hunting.

I've loaded the Hornady 286 Gr in Hornady Brass using RL15 and using Leupold 3X scope getting 2410FPS and 1"groups. NRA SCI & DSC 9.3x62 375 H&H 300 H&H 450 Nitro 3.25

I have shot a pig with that bullet in the 9,4x74R. I got complete penetration and from the look of the inside damage there was not a lot of fragmentation. While one kill is not a lot of info I would not hesitate to use it on anything in the lower 48, or similar sized game elswhere. I would want to shoot a few more pigs with it before I used it for big bears, or something like cape buff. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Don't/won't use any Hornady bullet for anything but practice. Usually don't even do that as the PRVI Partisan in 9.3 is a lot less expensive and can be pressed into hunting lighter skinned game if needed. There are too many better bullets out there, Barnes TSX, Nosler Partitions, North Forks, Trophy Bond to name a few to take a chance with the Hornady line. JMHO. Larry Sellers SCI Life Member

There are a lot of good bullets out there... But, IF, you have not actually shot game, with a particular bullet, in in weight, calibre, and velocity, then you have no valid info to offer... IMHO of course. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
