Mad DogBest area in RSA for big warthogs and bushpigs?
For those that have successfully hunted both, what area/outfitter is the best for both big warthog, AND bushpig[emphasis on bushpig]?

Andrew McLarenThe Springbok Falts is one area that comes to mind. Probably near the mountains on the edge of the true flats will be better for bushpig.
KwaZulu-Natal nothern areas may also be good?
In good hunting.

woodmanDanI hunted Bushpig in Kwazulu Natal with Harloo Safaris.Has some good Warthog too.
See my current post in Hog/pig forum
under Piggies on the wall and Pig slam.
They hunt 3 miles by 12 miles, not big by africa standards but challenging terrain.
The fellow that manages the propety also bow hunts and likes to get close,he is the PH.
They also have smokin' Nyala cheap,I took a 30"!

L. David KeithMad Dog, personally, I wouldn't rank one area as the "best" as there are many areas in southern Africa that produce both in trophy quality. RSA and Zim can provide excellent trophies, and at an affordable price, thereby giving you a lot for your money. You may do as many hunters, taking multiple trophies on one hunt. I'm always on the lookout for taking one that bests my largest tusker. I have several Outfits that can give you a good hunt, just contact me if you have any questions.
Good hunting,
David

I thought that was a "once in a lifetime hunt". You plan on going back?
I hunt, not to kill, but in order not to have played golf....

infinitoI'm one of the few Ph's that specialise in Bushpig in South Africa, and our area delivers constant good pigs. It borders the Springbok flats mentioned by another member, and yes we have some of the biggest pigs in the country.
We have good Warties as well, but I would suggest going to someone in the Swartwater area close to the Limpopo river if inches is what you want.We have two hunting areas down there as well. The Warties in our area (where we are based) are heavily hunted because of the damage they do to fields, so the boars do not reach full potential (trying to educate the farmers on this a bit)
Bushpig hunting with us is fun. No dogs, on foot in the fool moon.......

Forget trying to educate the farmers. Just as soon as the farmer realizes that he can sell his big boars to trophy hunters, his son starts shooting them himself.

You then educate the son! Just to find that his son in turn starts shooting the big boars indiscriminately!

On foot in the moonlight.....

Man you really seem to know how to hunt bushpig properly, even if you sometimes slip up a bit on the typos?

Mad Dog: Let me assure you the "best" or "most fun" method of hunting bushpig is on foot at night near full moon. Enjoy!
In good hunting.

On foot in the moonlight is by far the most fun way of hunting them.....
On the typing.....if I were flawless in my typing I would probably have been doing it as a job, and not hunting full time..... so feel free to take the piss......

Wimpie le RouxWarthog I would go to Thabazimbi area and for Bushpig I would go Heanertsburg, Tzaneen area. Take a shotgun on foot or a rifle and go look for their sleeping places, you can sometime hear them snore in their bed down area during day time if you come close enough. I was lucky enough to sneak onto two bushpigs once but my tracker did not see or hear them and when he spooked them they did not waite to see what desturbed their sleep.
Good luck with your search

SC-SportsmanYep, my big warthog above was shot near Thabazimbi...

Safari-HuntPictures of a couple of nice warthog that came out of the Alldays and Swartwater area all guided by myself.
Warthog trophies comes with a lot of luck and time spend in the correct areas.

Stephen PalosYou would do well to use Infinito/Safari Hunt and take their advice.
Big pigs can be found in many places. I believe softer ground helps with warthog trophy size, but I don't know if thats a fact?
Unfortunately there is a recent shameful phenomenon of overseas (mostly Spanish) hunters shooting literaly HUNDREDS of pigs at a time. This is done indiscriminately regarding size, sex etc. and the local "outfitter" or PHs that are practising this are staying "under the radar" at this stage. Although I doubt they will ever totally destroy the viable populations they could seriously affect specific areas, and should a legitimate hunter land up planning a trip into such an area after such carnage he'll be wasting his time methinks...

Safari-HuntJust to add some more pigs bushpig hunted on foot by Charl in full moon. 2 Full moons ago.
And this young one was taken in broad daylight with a sounder running in all directions and the hunter had a hell of a time to choose which one to shoot. Again Charl was involved he is the man when it comes to bushpigs and me the warthogs more.
The last one was taken with Charl last year and the hunter non other than our own terry Blauwkamp.

Mad DogNice bushpigs! If I can put together a second trip, bushpig and a "hoss" of a warthog, are high on my priority list!
