I want to auction off an eland shoulder mount, since I have two of them and one has lived in storage for years now.

I don't have a photo because it's back home in Australia but I'll be there in a few weeks.

The taxidermy is outstanding, done by Zac Zucchero of Real Life Taxidermy South Africa and the horns are representative, but not huge.

Can anyone give me an idea of it's value?

tough question.....put it on E-bay and let it go.....there's no real value to these things except to the original owner.....to all others it's just a "dead animal"

Here's one on Ebay but I imagine yours has longer horns.

Check out Loli Brothers Auctions on the internet for some comparative prices. I would guess you may get $1,000 or more on ebay.

Check with corporate Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Sportsman's Warehouse. They all buy taxidermy when they open a new store. Sportsman's Warehouse just opened here and had a large ad in the newspaper trying to buy taxidermy of African animals.

Let me change my estimate a bit. Lolli brothers had some Lord Derby's at around $800 so I would guess you should expect more in the $500-$800 range. You never know with ebay. Watch the above ebay link and see what it brings.

Try some of the auction houses in Melbourne. An Adelaide auction house maybe two times a year seems to have taxidermied trophies and skins on auction. I noticed because one time they had a full mounted lion in the windown and another time a tiger skin with head.

I have seen some quite ratty goat heads go through for prices they were not worth so a good eland may be a lot better.

My guess would be around A$2000. Maybe more.
