Ladies and Gentlemen, The grass has not been burnt on quite a bit of our hunting concession this year. And as it is taller than us in places, it makes for quite an interesting and exciting walk! This is especially true as buffalo herds seem to like to get into the valleys, as some of our old African hands here would attest to, making them very difficult to see. We were walking in one of these valleys one day, with visibility being not much further than you can stretch your own arm. I asked Roy if he knew where he was going, and his reply was: "More or less!" I said: "Just like my shooting today ha?" He said: "Yes, this is a more or less hunting day. You don't seem to know where your bullets are going, but managed eventually to get your reedbuck. I don't know where I am going, but eventually I am sure we'll get to the truck!" He was refering to what happened earlier that morning. We were driving along, when we saw a reedbuck feeding across the valley from us. Roy decided that this reedbuck was good enough to shoot, so we scrambled out of the truck, and I fired a shot him. We have no idea where my shot had gone, as he paid absolutely no attention to it, and just continued feeding. Another shot hit him, and he took off, going into another valley. We all ran after him, thinking that I had hit him too far back, and we might have a long tracking job on our hands. When we crossed the valley seperating us from where he was, Roy and the trackers were trying to follow the blood trail, while Alan and me remained on top of the hill, to get a better view of him in case he takes off running again. Luckily, we found him dead a few yards further, as the bullet raked him. Going in just ahead of his left hind leg, and coming out where you see the blood behind his right shoulder. ------------------ www.accuratereloading.com

What guns did you use this trip Saeed? The 375/404? ------------------

Rwj, We laugh at everything that happens on our hunting trips. When I hit something, Roy generally says " lucky he got in the way of your bullet ha?" And when I miss, I say " it is not his day to die to day" This makes for quite an interesting conversation sometimes, especially if Walter is invloved in it ------------------ www.accuratereloading.com

Saeed, That is a nice reed buck. Who decides when to burn the grass? There could be some excitement to be stumbled across in that grass! Don

Bill, Yes, I used my 375/404 exclusively this year, just like on previous hunts. I was told I am very "boring" in my choice of hunting rifle, especially that I have so many others,a nd just keep using this cartridge all the time. The only one who does not complain is Roy, our PH. He says it makes easier than try to change rifle and ammo in the middle of a hunt. Don, Whoever "owns" teh concession makes that decidion. Sometimes, due to wind conditions, a fire started on one concession, or in teh park, can cross fire guards into another area and create a lot of damage. ------------------ www.accuratereloading.com
