Just got my taxidermy from Trophaendienste that I took on my hunt last summer with Francois Marais (PH for Karl) of Ndumo Safaris.

I was a little worried seeing the boot prints in the top of the box but everything came through fine.

Nice, I really like the warthog, I have never
seen one mounted that way.

I haven't seen that before either, but I'm going to do that myself sometime now. Great idea!

That was the Trophaendienste taxidermist's (Manfred) idea

I like your kudu. He has nice "classic" shaped horns. A great trophy for sure.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

At first I thought it unusual to have a steenbok mounted sitting on a kudu's head, but then I've hunted with François Marais as well. One year ain't that bad, now they can start on mine.

Fjold,
Would you mind sharing (PM?) your shipping cost and who you used to import? I'll have a shipment coming from the same taxidermist and want to get a ballpark. Also, did the kudu and oryx mounts have removable horns?
Thanks!

No problem.

All the horns came loose from the skulls, all the skulls were padded with shredded newspaper and wrapped in plastic, the horns were wrapped individually in bubblewrap.

I used International Air Cargo Services (IACS) there in Namibia. I had them pick up the box from Trophaendienste and ship it. (Pam Foerster) pam-iacs@mweb.com.na The cost for the international shipping of my box was $480 delivered to San Francisco Airport (SFO).

Of course it cost another $400 for Customs Clearance with:
