Sept 10th, 2013 my brother Tom and I fly out of San Francisco and on to London and Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth, South Africa. We'll spend the next week hunting with Victor Watson of Karoo Wild Safaris. My brother wants a kudu and gemsbok and my main quarry will be a bushbuck but we'll probably take impala, blue wildebeest, etc. while we're there. Now I have to decide what gun(s) to bring. Good hunting Frank! On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. Andrew is correct. I have used the .375 for all of the animals on your list and it does a phenominal job. Hard to beat for your list.

Frank, long time no talk my friend. I have a safe full of guns and some of them haven't been hunting in 10+ years but it's hard not to take my 375 H&H. I just wonder what Victor will think since I told him that my main quarry is a Bushbuck and then I show up in camp with my 375 H&H. I think that I can justify it if I take a Gemsbok and a Wildebeest Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. Over practical African hunting distances (out to 300m) your 375 H&H with 270 grain bullets shoots as flat as a 30-06 with 180 grainers. But it hits much harder, penetrates better and kills quicker - perfect for a bushbuck hunt where the animal may not offer you the best shot and when you want it to not go too far in thick bush. If you can shoot it accurately and it is set up properly i can assure you no PH will roll his eyes at bringing an H&H for plains game! Hope you have a great hunt

Frank, I think they will be happy when you show up with the 375. I did a lot of plains game hunting in the 90s and the Win 70/375 was all I had. I used the ordinary Federal Softs in 270 grain and was quite amazed about the trajectory. Today I would use something more sophisticated like TSX but would stick with the 270 grains for antelope. I am sure you will have a good time and bushbuck is my favourite plains game animal, just take care that you shoot a mature one.

The more I think about it the more I think that the 375 H&H is it. I shoot it well and it worked for for me in Namibia on plains game. I used my mod. 70 in 375H&H using Fed. Prem. 300gr TSX in Namibia in 2010 for PG. Worked great. Shot duiker to eland with it. Just wish I had brought my rangefinder, would have saved me a trophy fee on a lost zebra that I only creased, but still had to pay for. Was told it was 250 yds., replaying it in my mind that stallion sure looked small, probably closer to 300 or 325yds. LORD, let my bullets go where my crosshairs show. Not all who wander are lost.
