I kinda let things slip. in 2008 I shot a brown hynea in Namibia. Even though I obtained an export permit, and the brown hyena was delisted fron Cites 1. USF%WF said in a phone conversation that a brown hyena will never be imported into the US.

I remember your post when you shot the brown hyena. I was surprised by it as I thought they were clearly illegal to take. Namibia may have given you an export permit, but I knew back then that you would never be able to import it into the US. The same would go for a cheetah from Namibia and elephant ivory from Mozambique. Just because it is legal to hunt in the host country doesn't mean it can be imported back into the USA.

Bigborecore, if the brown Hyena has been de-listed from CITES appendix 1, how is it that USF/WL legally prevent it being imported when he has an export permit from Namibia? If all laws on both ends have been abided by this doesn’t make legal sense! It seems the USF/WL are using Gestapo tactics, but that is not surprising to me at least.

USF&W can prevent anything it so designates from being imported into the USA. Neither CITES nor the country of origin game laws are the controlling factor on US imports.

See for example:
Polar Bear
Cheetah
Harp Seal
Walrus
Etc.

And the list goes on. USF&W is being run by a bunch of anti-hunter tree huggers.

Seems they have no plans to ever let us shoot one.

I hunted a brown Hyaena in 08 with a collecter in Mpumalanga province.This guy had everything and was turning his trophy room into a Museum. Even with legal paperwork from SA and the fact that he was importing a museum piece. USFW wouldnt even give him time of day.
P.S he also has a legally hunted Polar Bear in storage in Canada USFW wont budge there either
