Anyone tried bow hunting in Africa

I also use an SKB double bow case and carry bow and rifle in same case. Never had any issues.

I always take:

- Two releases
- Two dozen arrows
- Plenty of broadheads
- String Snot
- A second bowstring that has been shot in
- Allen wrench for bow / sight
- Extra batteries for Illuminated sight if you use one
- The clip-on bow stand for when in a blind

My bush pig bait in Mokore only attracted lions, leopards, hyena and wild dogs

I will get my bush pig one day either in the save or moz. May take me 10 years and 200 hunting days. I doubt I will get one with a bow.

He certainly has the patience of Job and knows how to handle a bow with a deadly degree of accuracy; one of those guys who in accepting defeat will try and try again.

Last I heard of him he was offering bow-hunts for the elusive Royal Antelope (among others) in West Africa (Ghana).

If you want bushpig there are a number of South African operators who specialise in this specie over bait and with very high success rates. They use a concoction of corn, sugar and yeast.

I have baited them with wild figs and sugar before but this also attracts elephants.

From reading your first post it gives me the impression your not experienced at bowhunting. That opens a whole other can of worms to me.

If your only going to shoot an impala or 3 most any bow setup will do. If your sitting in the blind and a huge kudu comes in. Well i would want a bow thats setup for elk size game. Plus pig can be tough.

What poundage will you be shooting?
How heaavy are your arrows?
What size broadheads do you have?

For me sitting in a blind at a waterhole was great. Theres lots of action. You get to take great photos and really get to examine the animals up close and personal. Id shoot one from the blind first. Then try my hand at stalking.

Thanks for the info in the bowsite - I will check it out.

I think it is a 65 pound bow. No idea in arrows or arrowheads.

This will be a good exercise in getting up to speed in it.

A few impala is all I want. I am hoping my k-95 from blaser gets in on time. I can take that to Zim and the bow to Moz.

I spoke to Doug Duckworth and he just said bring plenty of arrows. He said there is no shortage of plains game.

A monster kudu would make a great photo. I have little desire to kill anything more than impala (I love to eat em) and maybe a bush pig.

I did and the animal bubble was about 60 yards.I went there after the leaves had dropped. There was not enough cover anywhere to get closer.I tried numerous stalks from Impala to Kudu. Impala are tough to hit as they will jump the string. If you really want to harvest some animals with a Bow using a hide would really up your chances. Use a rangefinder and Practice,Practice,Practice.

Get your bow as quiet as possible, not only on the release, but on the draw. I lost a shot at an eland that heard my rest squeak as I drew.

Thanks for all the advice and PMs. Some great people on AR.

My gt fishing trip to Papau got moved from March 2018 to 2019. Now I can stop throwing a popper for practice and move to bow practice.

Bow hunted with Doug in Moz in 2015. He is a bow hunter himself and will get you close.
I travel with my bow in the bottom of a Badlands Terraglide and pack my arrows in a tube. Pack clothes around the bow and arrow tube. The advantage of the Terraglide is it is treated like luggage and will not end up with the rifles in the restricted area but will come out with the regular luggage.
