A few of you guys asked me to post the dates when my 2007 Zim safari would air on Outdoor Channel. Part I runs on Trijicon’s Outdoor America – Monday, March 10th at 8:00am. Thursday, March 13th 11:00AM and Sunday March 16th at 1:30PM. All times are Eastern Standard. I think it is the first buff and a Kudu (including a miss). I haven't seen the finished product yet. Let me know what you think. There are some (at least 1) problems that you will likely see, and I know it will probably spur some negative feedback, but that is OK and I look forward to the reviews...(part 2 will run in late summer sometime) Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

I look forward to seeing you in action. And I promise not to be too critical as I know how cruel the camera can be at times. We seldom get to choose But I've seen them go both ways And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory Than to slowly rot away!

Hell, everytime I look at a photo of me I see the result of a cruel camera!

Tim, Looking forward to the show. Great looking trophies in the photos. Did you have any difficulty with the thumbhole stocked TC? I can't think of a more unsuitable rifle for dangerous game than the one you were shooting. For me TCs are slow to reload in the best of times as they only extract the spent cases slightly and require fired cases to be fully extracted by hand which would be a bit impeded by the scope on your rifle. Also, rifles with thumbhole stocks and without external hammers are slow to employ for shots requiring quick action and the stock configuration of your rifle would slow the manual cocking sequence required by Encore rifles as you would need to remove your shooting hand from the stock to cock the hammer or use your support hand to do so-either action which would seem awkward. Plus, the scope overhanging the chamber would slow a rapid unload and reload and then after reloading you would need to reaquire a shooting grip by inserting you thumb in the stock recess. Finally, single shots, even Ruger No. 1 riles, are marginal as a DGR because of the time required to reload and TCs are the slowest of any single shot to load and unload because of the weak extraction, break over action and manual hammer cocking. However, Jim Shockey has killed every damn critter on earth with a ML and Chuck Adams has done so with a bow-so a centerfire TC is no trick at all I guess. I'll wager you killed the buff with one shot or your PH put in any back up shots that were needed in a hurry and that you carried the rifle because TC was a sponsor of the show or hunt. Perry

Not to mention the stock configuration of the TC forces one to keep the head high and the cheek poorly weilded to the stock meaning it kicks like a SOB. I would rather go 3 rounds with Chuck Lydell than shoot a TC.

Great looking animals. I'm with the other guys- TC would be my last choice for a weapon. I generally change the channel anytime I see someone using an encore or contander.

I own a TC Contender in .44 mag with which I can consistently hit a 2" diameter disc at 75 yards with irons. However, you couldn't pay me enough to enter the field against DG with a TC rifle. A 2" metal disc can't stick a horn in your guts, or your tracker(s) or your PH's or your cameraman's guts. If I screw up a shot, I don't want to have to put the PH in the positon of having to save all our lives because I can't get a quick second, third or fourth shot off in a matter of a few seconds. TC must have put up some money for this one.

You guys do realize that many examples of dangerous game were killed before the advent of smokeless powders and repeating rifles right? A hunter who is practiced with an Encore is preferable to one armed with a .470 NE double that panics when it's go time imho. -+-+- "If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun." - The Dalai Lama

Oh and guys on the TC - I can't wait to get an ICON bolt action in .375 for sure for DG. I had no problems with the Encore in either .375 H&H or .416. The thumbhole fits me great, I feel locked in better and I think it takes kick out. The .375 shot a 3/4" group at 100 yards. Both the calibers are actually comfortable to shoot with a good recoil pad. I did practice a lot! PH never fired his gun on the trip and everything was killed with 1 shot (though I did miss a few times - once on follow up that was un-needed). I had zero trouble with the single shot - but it makes you really concentrate on your shot and only take really good shots. (I can reload it pretty quickly when I need to as well). Let me know what you think...TH Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

Agreed. But that was then and this is now. Besides, regardless of the rifle(s) you're hunting, going into the field without attaining total familiarity with your weapons is completely irresponsible. People who are prone to panic should not engage in potentially life-threatening endeavors.

It should be EDST. | |||

I have a TC and a Ruger M77 in the same caliber and I feel the recoil much more when shooting the Ruger. Perhaps that is unique to me and the way the guns fit me , but it does not jive with the earlier posts. Also I once had a group of five bucks come by me chasing a doe and I managed to get off three shots and took the best two of the bucks. Some folks can get them things reloaded pretty quick.
