Hey Everybody,
Am looking into buffalo hunting in Zim next year. I have got a few ideas and prices to consider so far but just wanted to check here what is legally available. I know there have been some few posts discussing this already but I cannot seem to find them and end up spending 1-3 hrs reading through all the other interesting stuff you run across while searching...which is great...but unfortunately not so much help in finding what I need.

Tanks!

Andy

Get a subscription to African Hunter and check the adds there. Good place to start your search.

Tigerfish,
If you only spent 1-3 hours searching on this site and that was too much time, you need to re-think this.

Many of us have spent hundreds of hours researching a hunt of this type to find what fits us the best. I suggest you go to one of the three hunting shows next winter (Houston, Dallas and Reno) to visit with people to see what works for you.

Next, talk to 2 or 3 agents and get their "take" on what fits you. Get cost estimates and decide what exactly you want to hunt.

Check the hunt reports section of AR, contact the members directly for a recommendation, then get serious about your search.

Good luck - planning is half the fun!

dogcat...
as much as i enjoy reading what i find here...computers are something I avoid at all possible costs...unless I am working, playing games, writing mails, editing photos, looking for flights, checking my bank balance, looking for guns, looking for toys, browsing music libraries, accidentally "bumping into" the odd porn site, or whatever else needs to be done on the damn thing...all i meant was that it would be nice to get an idea of what the price range is and what you get for what...and yes I know...I can hear shakari saying it already...You get what you pay for...or rather you DON'T GET WHAT YOU DON'T PAY FOR...but I would just like to compare what other prices are out there against what I have already received from the operators I have been in touch with...and believe me...I could probably pay the deposit on a fancy schmancy double with the money I have spent online at this site....Smiler

Tigerfish,
I agree with you on the "value" of computers. I am an engineer and use them daily, but do not like them that much. They do save considerable time on research, for me.

With that said, why don't you call Ray Atkinson, Wendell Reich or Jeff Neal? These guys can quote numbers and get a feel for what you want.

There was a thread awhile back about the cost of a buff hunt - ranged from $7000 to $12500 excluding airfares and tips.

I disagree, a little bit with the statement "you get what you pay for". There is no sense in overpaying. You do not want to underpay as you will not get what you are after.

I did a great deal of research on my first and only buff hunt - I enjoyed that part of it. I found that the different countries offer differ types of hunting, accomodations and expectations. Each of the guys mentioned above can tell you in 30 minutes more than you can research in weeks.

I just re-read my post and did not mean to sound like a smarty pants. My apologies if it did.

From the time you land in Africa, your cost can be between $7500 and $20,000.

If you want a good solid Zambezi Valley Buffalo hunt for one Buffalo, $7500-$10,000 is the range. Good Buffalo, 39" or so. Great fun, but usually limited on plainsgame animals.

If you want two Buffalo and a load of plainsgame look to a 10-day hunt in Tanzania with a 14-day license. Here you are looking at $15,000 - $18,000 with two Buffalo trophy fees included.

One big Buffalo with a lot of plainsgame, Zambia, $15,000 +/- depending on area and other animals chosen.

First, know your budget.
Then figure out is a huge Buffalo a necessity, if not, you may have just saved yourself some $$.
Find out what you want to go with it, what plainsgame animals.
Call/e-mail agents/safari operators who seem to have hunts that look interesting.

Contact Graham Hingston of http://www.hhksafaris.com
Tell him exactly what type of hunt you are looking for.
I hunted with them in June of 2004 for 21 days.
No problems, no complaints.
