SCI is a very large non profit organization which has served african conservation and hunting extremely well for more than 4 decades. They are the watchdogs for American hunting rights in the USA , we should not take for granted the thousands of hours they spend combating the legal systems that the anti hunters use to limit hunting . I dont have the facts on hand either regarding their conservation support in Africa but I am sure you can log on to their web site and find information in this regard.
Could they do more - sure , but my question to those persons attacking SCI for not doing more is - have you actualy writen in and specificaly requested assistance and were turned down /ignored , if so quote the case /situation here so we can better understand your frustration. Having attended a bunch of professional Hunters Assoc meetings across the southern part of Africa , I can assure you SCI is well represented and active. Their role at CITIES for one should not be taken lightly .
Yes there is room for improvment , yes they could do more , yes the record book program is fraught with misconceptions. But unless you are willing to roll up your sleeves and muck in lets be a little more patient with the guys giving of their time and effort.

Was reading the Nov /Dec SCI magazine when came upon a relevant article on the Friedikin Fund in Tanzania , they report apprehending 1300 poachers and have ultra lights as well as large anti poaching unit , the work is commendable , it also states that they receive grant funding from SCI , last grant was $38 000-00 , so this is just one project that came up without any research into the matter of does SCI assist the conservation initiative in Africa , so apart from the millions of $ channeled into conservation from hunting revenues there are direct grant projects running concurrently . From my side in 2000 I applied to DSC to assist with water provision in our concession and we entered into a joint funding program where we donated a hunt and they channelled the funds back through to the water provision program , so I think it's a case of if you don't ask you don't see or get .
