Ok guys, I know this is my first post but I was directed here by another forum Im on for advice from the pro's. Im going to be headed to Johannesburg in August and I would like to try and squeeze in 2 days of hunting if possible. I know its a short time frame for a hunt but I dont have any other options since this is a work trip. Also, due to the short time frame, I need to find a place within fairly close driving distance of Jberg as I will have a car

Due to the cost of the hunt and the fact that Im trying to buy a house, Im thinking if I can find an outfitter willing to do 2 days, that a Springbok, Kudu, Impala, or Gemsbok would be the best bang for the buck. I really like the racks on the Kudu and some pics of the Springbok I have seen are just beautiful. Obviously I would just rent a rifle to avoid the hassle of bringing one with me. Now, with all that being said, can any of you provide guidance on reputable outfitters near Jberg that are reasonably priced and willing to do 2 days. Dates would be Sat/Sun Aug 13th-14th.

Also, any information I should know ahead of time regarding taxidermy should I get anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Andrew McLaren should be able to sort you out: www.mclarensafaris.com

Alternatively, try Aubs or Luan both of whom post here. - You'll have to wait a few days for those two to reply to you though as they're away just now.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Steve beat me to it - I'd also recommend Andrew McLaren. I hunted with him a few years ago and really enjoyed the experience. Good luck on your trip and hunt.

Thanks everyone for the help. Ive received multiple PMs as well with suggestions.

Now that I have gotten a few suggestions of options to go with, do you have any recommendations of certain outfitters or names to stay away from.

One of the PM's I received said that "Some of the people mentioned in the post are not legaly registered outfitters in South Africa."

I'm not trying to call anyone out, just trying to cover my bases and make sure i don't get myself into an undesirable situation.

Thanks Again.

Whoever told you that either doesn't know what he's talking about or is pursuing his own private agenda.

There's not a single person mentioned in this thread who has claimed to be an outfitter and isn't. Even if someone isn't an outfitter, there's nothing at all to stop them working through a licenced outfitter and none of the people mentioned would try to operate without working through an outfitter..... and all of them are bloody good men!

Frankly, damn near every landowner with a hunting operation is a licenced outfitter and the vast majority of them work through a third party (usually a PH or agent) on a regular basis and as a matter of course.

I'm retired from the hunting field now but I (personally) know an immense number of landowning outfitters and I doubt I can think of a single one who doesn't (at least on occasion) do as I've mentioned above.
