Mugabe says 'friendly' China vows to help Zimbabwe economy.

"Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, returning from a state visit to China, said Sunday Beijing had pledged to assist his southern African country's ailing economy "to the best of its ability".

China will "continue to be as friendly to us as it was before ... The support we have asked for in the various areas, China will provide to the best of its ability," Mugabe said in comments carried on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) television after his arrival.

Is this the final nail in the elephant's coffin?

Might as well go ahead & bend over, the screwing is going to come.

the Chinese have a reputation for being very cheap ("frugal" as my father would have approvingly said). in international dealings, such as factories and joint ventures, they do not contribute to the local economy any more than they must.

I don't see how a closer relationship with cheap, ruthless resource exploiters is going to help Zimbabwe's economy.

China is ushering in a new era of colonialism that will have far worse consequences than the earlier version. Africans just can't see it yet, because it is too subtle from their perspective. Obvious from the outside, though.

So true. The days of Rhodesia will look good by comparison.

I remember years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about Zimbabwe or its politics.

I saw a photo of COMRADE ROBERT GABRIEL MUGABE at the Vic Falls customs office.

The word that got my attention was COMRADE.

I told my PH that he should be looking forward to something nasty in the future.

Sadly, I was right.

The yellow plague is pervasive throughout Africa today. No country has been spared. If there are any natural resources to exploit you can bet that the yellow man is there busy rapin the land... followed by a lot of organized poaching. Little wonder why no one is really serious about stopping the poaching.

I'm currently reading a book on the Chinese influence in Africa. Can't remember the title or the author as I'm at my office.

What's interesting is this is by an occidental who lived in China and speaks Chinese. He doesn't paint a very favorable picture.

I'll get ya'll the title. I think it's worth reading although I'm only about a quarter way through it.

In 2013, after the skin, claws and skull from my leopard were recovered, the rest of his remains were burned, to keep Chinese from gaining any marketable parts.

Have you seen the signs in front of major public works projects, like stadiums, where not only soccer games will be played, but where a politician might give a speach? The signs are in Chinese.

When are the proposed completion dates? Guess.

How many African workers will be screwed? Guess.

How many African governments will stand up to the new Chinese colonialism? Guess.

I have not read a post I disagree with.

Let me paint another picture for you. South Africa was basicaly uninhabited except in some parts. Those area had the bushman in them. The Europeans came along and took over a mainly uninhabited land. To work the mines, farms etc they brought other Africans down from the north. They now out number the whites and have the majority in voteing. Eventualy the Chinese will do this in countries they want to hold onto. Only thing is there will be no voteing.

Africa is in for some very bad times. wonder what the western media and dogooders will say about this.

there is not a lot of appreciation here in the USA for Chinese economics, and their international affairs leave much (almost everything) to be desired. accordingly, I don't expect much sympathty from the media or the dogooders on this particular issue. it is pretty much unanimous over here that the Chinese economic model is ruthlessly effective, and the Chinese give nothing back not in their own self-interest.

to be fair, they are not dishonest or rapacious, and are committing no sin that has not been committed by others. they are no King Leopold. but they have a considerable economic appetite which they feed efficiently and effectively, with no qualms. the Chinese elephant must feed, and it cannot help it if it tramples on others who won't make room.

They are all King Leupold and everyone else.
Just look to recent history ( starting with Boxer rebellion and follow up )
They killed millions and millions early in last century before Mao was even a thought.

The Chinese are far worse than the European colonists, even Leupold. I guess it remains to be seen, but I will be right on this.
