Not that I'm going to enter anything into the books, but how do you score a lion skull? Is it length plus width?

Here's how you score a bear skull. I suspect a lion skull would be the same since it too is simply measured by its skull size. It takes a score of 23" for a lion to make the SCI record book.



SCORING YOUR TROPHY

Measurements are taken with calipers or by using parallel perpendiculars, to the nearest one-sixteenth of an inch. For example, if the skull length measures 11 and 2/16 inches, you would enter 11 2/16 in the space provided.

A. GREATEST LENGTH
The greatest length is measured between perpendiculars parallel to the long axis of the skull, without the lower jaw and excluding malformations.

Greatest Length Without Lower Jaw: _________

B. GREATEST WIDTH
The greatest width is measured between perpendiculars at right angles to the long axis.
Greatest Width: ____________

Now just add the two together: ________________

Yes maximum length plus maximum length for all carnivores.

Length plus the widest point, add them together = score..

You need to have the skull completly cleaned and dry for 60 days for an offical measurement...

I'm a master measurer for SCI and a scorer for Rowlan Ward...

I have know idea what it takes to make the book and have no plans to enter anything. For that matter I normaly don't put a tape on a animal I shoot but this Lion skull has been sitting on a table in my den looking at me for the last week or so... By my measurements its 13 7/8" long and 9 1/8" wide for a total of 23". How does that compare? Not that it'll change my thoughts or memories of shooting shooting him, I'd just like to know.
