Gentlemen: Am hunting with Central African Republic in 2015 for eland and bongo and was planning on using my 375 H&H and North Fork 300 grain softs- any other suggestions or am I on the right track with this caliber and bullet choice? Many thanks...

Can't go wrong with NF bullets. If you are loading softs, you might want to consider the PP's as well, for lighter game as well.

If your gun groups them well, your fine. I shot my Bongo with a 416 Rigby using 400 grain A-Frames. I shot a 51 LDE with my 375 H&H using 300 grain Winchester Silvertips. Enjoy your hunt!

Sahav, That combo will work nicely. I've shot all the varieties of eland including the Lord Derby with e 375 and it seemed to be about perfect. Mark MARK H. A 300 win mag and good bullets will work too.

If you are hunting with CAWA, they have good CZ's in 375 as camp guns. Also, you will get a bit of sticker shock on the price of a gun permit for CAR. Two years ago it was $600 per gun and extra for the Amos. I rented my guns.

Hi Dahaw I hunted twice in CAR using a 375 and Swift A Frame, the combination being perfect for buff, lion, leopard and eland. For bongo my cousin (tagging with me ) used 416 with Woodleigh soft). I do appreciate NF, so I think that your picking is perfect. The 375 is enough gun and you can be sure that poor eles won't bother You. Dahaw, tell us about your hunt - outfitter, location, etc. Why did you pick this particular hunt? I must confess, I'm thinking someday of doing the same thing. AIU

A .375H&H with premium 270 or 300 gr bullets is never the wrong choice.

Ackley: I decided to hunt with CAWA for 21 days being the last two weeks in January and the first week in February, 2015. PH will be Christophe Morio. Hopefully, the politics in CAR will be ok then? At least for now I believe CAWA's areas to be good and the company has had many positive reviews from the last few seasons. I know I'm taking a bit of a gamble with the eland /bongo combo, but we'll see how things go- I think I have a fair chance to get both. Last season, Morio joined CAWA after leaving another company with areas located in the north-central part of the country where some of the trouble was recently. Like CAWA, he has been highly recommended. Hope that helps...

All your choices are first grade, CAWA are great people, Erik and Christophe are good friends and great people to hunt with, and your time of year is spot on for full bag hunt, Look for where the full moon lands as important for Bongo, Good luck JKhunter

JKHunter: Yes sir, before I booked, Christophe checked the moon data for these dates- I'm looking forward to seeing CAWA's areas and hunting with Christophe. In addition to eland and bongo, hunting buffalo with Christophe calling looks like a lot of fun...

Dahav: I hunted with them in 2010 and had a great hunt. The .375 is perfect for eland and just about anything else you want to shoot there. Good luck. Looking for a hunting report. MMP

IMO there is no better chambering than a 375H&H for about anything world wide. It will take anything from a Texas jack rabbit to a bull elephant with a proper bullet for the job. The old 1912 375H&H cartridge is truly a one cartridge for the world! A perfect weight is 300 grains solid or soft with the scope printing 2 inches high at 100 yds. That bullet @ 2500 fps will give you a point blank hold from muzzle out out to 250 yds, and only 12 inches low at 300 yds. .......................................................................... .... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Here's a .375 250-grain Hornady GMX that I pulled out of my eland...I'd say it performed perfectly.

I used my .375 Sako with Zeiss Z6i 1.7 x 10. The illuminated reticle is nice. I like it all the time. I shot EVERYTHING with 260 gr. Accubonds. including two buffalo. The performance was extraordinary. These were the only two buffalo I have killed that never left the immediate area in which they were shot (went maybe 20 yards). This is to include several with a .500NE and all the others with either a .470 or a 450-.400 3-1/4. I was very, very impressed. I would be sure of this. I think I read your hunt is on the full moon. Mine was as well, BUT we hunted LDE first as there were a husband and wife (awesome people) in Bongo camp (Mbari)both hunting. I hunted LDE 5 days before killing. We hunted Bongo second, five days into the full moon, I've seen one Bongo in my life...The one I killed. If you hunt Bongo in Mbari, it's a full days drive through some pretty desolate bush to get there. 7-8 hours. If you want to discuss, PM please. I'd be happy to share what I learned.
