Ivan Carter has been using the .458" 480gr solid and reported good performance and success with them here on AR not too long ago. JPK Free 500grains

If that's the same bullet Hornady uses in their "Heavy Magnum" 458 ammo, we had a rather major failure using solids on Elephant this feb. Bullet was flattened along the entire length, jacket split. Looked like it had been placed on a train track. Behind the shoulder shot. Russ, Was this a new style flat point steel jacketed solid, an old style RN steel jacketd solid, or the known fairure, the earlier than FN, later than steel jacketed RN, non steel jacketed "encapsulated solid" RN? Big difference. BTW, the way to check which RN it is is to use a magnet. JPK Free 500grains
