THE POWDER to use in the .416 Rigby is H 4831, in my estimation. Usually 98-102 grs. will give you something in the 2350-2450 fps. range. Geronimo

Geronimo hit the nail on the head. The classic load is 105 grains of H4831 with any 400 grain bullet (soft or solid). This will deliver +/- 2,400 fps in most rifles. Also delivered sub MOA groups in my Ruger M77 with multiple brands of bullets (Hornady, Barnes, Noslers, NorthForks, etc.) I used 400 grain Barnes X's and Bridger Flatnose solids during my last buffalo/plainsgame safari in Zim. I shot a huge eland at 70 yards and just knocked/rolled him over. However, my buff came for us immediately after I put a 400 grain X through his chest (heart shot) at +/- 20 yards. Tim

This probably belongs on the reloadingforum but dammit it's an African Caliber. Would any of you who have had experience reloading a .416 Rigby (400 grain bullets)please share your loads. I'll be quite satisfied with 2,350 fps. Saw in RIFLE where 100 grains of Ramshot Mag. gave just that. Anybody tried this? RIch Elliott
