Headed over to RSA on 22 June for almost two weeks to hunt buffalo, zebra, kudu and impala...and whatever else pops up with Spiral Horns Safaris. My 75-year-old father, and the best campfire bartender ever, will join me.

I'm taking along my Whitworth 458 WM with iron sights for the buff and a 338 WM for everything else.

Not many questions, but I'm curious as to whether anyone else has ever used a mini-iPad as their camera. My dad will have his new Leica digital camera and plans to take hundreds of pics, but I like having a backup.

Hey, congrats on making your first trip. You're in for an adventure and you'll be hooked on it forever after. Awesome that you're taking your Dad along. I wish my Dad could have gone with me. He's still alive but at 91 years young, those days passed by before he got the chance.

Hope you fellows have a great one!

Man, that's awesome!!! You can only have one "first safari", make it a good one. Lots of luck, and safe travels.

Congrats, have an awesome time.

I'm leaving om 5 June for three weeks of PG and DG hunting for the second time. I'll be using a regular iPad and iPhone as cameras.

Matt, I am smiling at this. Photos make sure cameera is set on its very fine or highest setting for super quality photos for enlargements.
This was a long time coming. It it finally here. My excitement and anticipation of a report is building.

Thanks guys. We're both pretty excited. Dad and I are of like minds. Talked with the PH and he knows we'll stop and take pics of dung Beatles, cool bird nests, etc., and enjoy campfires as much as hot tracks. We just moved into our new/first house and our neighbors are South African...and now I'm even excited about the potjies.

Should've mentioned I arranged for my dad, on observer rates, to take an impala or similar critter. He admitted it would be nice to have something for the wall in his den (aka, British pub).

Aaron - Didn't book through you, but you gave some solid advice and it's appreciated.

Mike - I blame you for the DG fever. Kind of wish I still had my 470 NE for the trip, but life happens.
