What famous hunters used the 405 in Africa.I know Teddy Roosevelt and Osa Johnson did for sure.I just bought a Teddy Roosevelt 1895 and its one of my funest rifles to shoot.I rember in his book Teddy Roosevelt broke one in Africa he shot it so much. Its hard to believe how much ammo he and Kermit took .They would think it was an invasion these days. One twenty five wagon to carry it all.

IIRC from my readings, Bwana Charles Cottar used one. And was even killed after it failed to stop a charging rhino. 30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

I hear this quoted all the time, but not the whole story. Cottar had only one useable arm after leopard chewings and a stroke, the other had only partial use. he was trying to make a movie film of the rhino chargeing, waited to long until he tried to shoot it and made a poor shot and got tagged. This, the whole story from one of his sons who came on site just as it was happening. A 600 nitro wouldnt have made any differance.
