Hi all,

I went to one of our Game fares at the weekend here in England and met a guy who makes all sorts of leather shooting accesories at a very reasonabel price. However he mentioned that if I could get the skis from my PG hunt tanned and cured to a stiff enough standard, he could use my leather to make me a set of Gun cases/ cartridge bags and belts.

I will have impala/bushbuck/kudu etc (I HOPE!!!)

The question is whether or not PG skins can be "Leathered" and is there any animal in particular that would suit best?

Thanks for the info,
FB

fallow,

The impalla and bushbuck are in my opinion to thin, but a kudu and a blue wildebeaste skins and thicker and will do a great job....
The scrotums make great little bags....
Ask him if there is a certain type of tannig required to do the stiffness thing...

Bushbuck & Impala make very fine good quality leather usually best suited to linings etc. The thicker skins etc can be leathered into thinnner thicknesses as required. The best way to do it is to give your taxidermist/tannery precise instructions beofre they start work. You'll need to request leather of whatever thickness you require.
