Wanted Micro light Pilots in Moyowosi

Hi There

Some Microlight photos taken over Moyowosi Game Reserve in Far Western Tanzania. We have one based here to combat poaching and to assist the wildlife division of Tanzania with Protected Area Management.

We are planning to place another 4 microlights into the field over the next year and a half. One based per Game Reserve we operate in. We have purchased the 2nd Microlight for Maswa Game Reserve ( Borders onto the Serengeti NP on the SW)
However we are battling to find pilots. Could you please put the word out and ask interested parties to contact me.

The minimum number of hours is 100( Preferably in challenging conditions), must have very good mechanical knowledge of the machine as will be require to service and repair the microlight in the bush. The pilot will be based in a Game Reserve flying daily ( Weather permitting) and communicating directly with anti poaching ground teams.
The pilot needs to be single , bush savvy , be able to live in the field for 3 months at a time and be prepared to fly over very remote areas.

The pilot will move between a number of airstrips in his area linking up and staying with the anti poaching teams or staying in hunting camps.

Any assistance in spreading the word will be most appreciated

All the Best

Keith

IMO an very interesting JOB

Sounds like a great opportunity to get shot by a poacher! Other than that as a pilot myself it would be an unmatched adventure. It would be an up close and personal look at wild Africa but the poachers would know why you are there and IMO retaliate with some degree of certainty. It would be a hoot though.

This would have appealed to me in my youth but after two hard landings in the triple canopy during '68 & '69 as a charlie model gun driver I've already seen enough green and red tracers to last me awhile. If I were 30 years younger, the pay was right, and the bird was an AH-1G then I might be in.

The idea does pique the interest and get the adrenalin flowing however!

I meet the qualifications, but am now too old and too wise (after two Purple Hearts) to go out and get shot at again.

Yep, nothing would ruin your day worse than having that golden BB up your arse while enjoying the excursion..

But other than that!

I'll go with the GE minigun but that might stall the plane! Have you ever seen video of the A10 Warthog shooting it's 30mm cannon? It slows the plane down. Eeker

Sounds like an interesting job for someone who isn't married, with no family...no questions asked kind of thing.

I think the FN-FAL on full auto might just cause more damage to the aircraft than poachers shooting at it.
Now one of FN's Squad Automatic Weapons in .223 might be acceptable as far as recoil is concerned. Considering the height you'd be flying, it definitely would be adequate in energy.

When I was hunting in the Moyowosi and I had some time off,I took my paramotor up for a quick adrenalin fix.

Plenty of poachers in that swamp,2 took pot shots at me,from the amount of smoke that went off,I guess they were shooting with their muzzleloader-contraptions,got me to fly "evasive" though...

I would say even more dangerous are the thermals in the swamp, the air is very unstable and you get knocked around a lot with just a piece of fabric above you.Must be one of the most thermic places I've flown, along with the rift valley and Porterville in the Cape.

Now leave your controls and take pictures and you have the fix in a hurry. My boots aren't always supposed to be in the piture,if you catch my drift...

Mguu,

How in the hell do you take evasive action in a motorized parachute.

That thing uses a calendar for an airspeed indicator! Big Grin

Thermals are wonderful!!!! That is if you fly sailplanes. I look at the clouds on tv shows in africa and the cumulus clouds they show look like you could fly forever.

A small hole in the side of the sailplane cockpit could hold a AK so you could bank hard to solve some problems.

Bwana; Sounds interesting. Specifically what type, ie make and model are you flying?? Do you have to qualify for any local licenses or are these unregulated as in US?
