Over before it starts?
Has Dogleg & his bags arrived safe & sound in Jo'burg?

Andrew,

Good for you for stepping up to help sort this out. As Steve asked, wasn't Charl to arrange Dogleg's flight to Moz? I would check to see if Dogleg is booked on a flight to one of the appointed destinations. If he is it stands to reason that Charl made the arrangement and is expecting him to arrive on that flight. I realize arriving with a firearm is a big concern however.

Good luck,

George

I was on the phone with Andrew as Mike entered the Firearms Office this morning around 8:30. He is safely in SA and in good hands with Andrew. Haven't heard from Andrew since but I assume Mike's luggage and gun arrived safely as well.

I can't recall any safari that so many of us have been following live, other than Saeed's annual pilgrimages with the Vincents, that has caught our collective attention. Would be great if Dogleg could provide some reports as his safari progresses.

I have a feeling he's going to enjoy an epic safari once he arrives safely in camp.

This is Dogleg posting on Andrews computer.

Thanks for the support and suggestions and generous offers of help so far. There are ideas and offers behind the scenes that are quite overwhelming, but I still have to sort things out with Charl if possible.

For the record, Charl hasn't been able to to contact me by email, and we can't get him on his sat.

I have to agree with scriptus and shakari. Luan saved a hunt for me a couple of years ago. He is a great host and I am happy to call him a friend. Btw, you should not try to keep up, Luan has two elephant livers and they are calibrated for south african brandy. A man could do far worse than hunting with Luan and Tshabalahla ( greatest land cruiser jockey in all of Africa).

Wow!

I am blown away by this generosity from so many! But not entirely surprised.

18 months ago I was thinking of going to SA on work for a few days. I was asking some questions about small game / bird hunting in summer. Andrew popped up and said that he would try to get a special off-season license for me! He even got that organised on a visit to town though my trip was not confirmed!

Amazing support!

This is a great result and reinforces my faith in the strength of fellowship in AR.

Imagine if you had gone on faith to JNB in this situation without the wonderful support of AR?

Good hunting. Chris

This is Dogleg posting on Andrews computer:

We have been in contact with Charl this morning and something will be worked out, perhaps today. From here its just details, something will work out.

I'd like to again thank everyone for the help, offers of help and well wishes. Andrew has proven to be a godsend, without him I'd be a lost white guy in Africa. Not a great feeling.

Without the support of AR I may well have been beat. The way the forum responded to my distress flare is inspiring.

Kudos to Andrew indeed!

He hasn't mentioned this to anyone (and probably wouldn't either) but I'm going to do this anyway.

In spite of having urgent business to attend to more than 150 miles away from JNB, he diverted without hesitation to JNB when he read about Mike's distress.

True character from a real gentleman!

Good on you, Andrew for helping out this gentleman. I hunted with Andrew a few years ago and it doesn't surprise me that he came to the rescue ... Ol' Charl, however, has some mighty big explaining to do, I reckon ...

I completely agree. It appears we have seen both the best and worst from outfitters on this thread. Andrew McLaren is a true gentleman!

By now I feel so confident that I'll say: "Problem solved!" Mike is with me, guns intact and present , ammo not lost, all bags with him. Aslo spoke to Charl a few times by satellite phone and Mike has confirmed tickets for the correct flight to Maputo and on to Quelimane. I'm disappointed that we could not do better!

My personal thanks to all who jumped in and offered help! Please remember that AR is not the only avenue through which help was offered: I received many calls from AR and other friends, and some people that I hardly know at all. The offers of free hospitality, free services as PH and free trophy animals totally overwhelmed me! I can only imagine how astounded Mike was when I every so often I would tell him what a cellphone conversation [held in Afrikaans] was about - more free offers from good guys!

That's all for now. Many thanks again!

Thanks a lot for all who pitched in to help and make very generous offers, both by cellphone and via AR.

The good news, no, make that the very good news, is that Mike is set to fly the Maputo and Quelimane early tomorrow. All arranged.

That's all for now.
